I put “nikon d300” in google and checked out the top sponsored links. The “lowest” price from fake price comparison site Diduprice was from Photo Dynasty, but the second lowest was from shopdigitaldirect.com. I put “shopdigitaldirect” in Google and only a few results came up. Reseller Ratings? Nothing. (Update: See the absolutely horrible reviews here and their Better Business Bureau report here. Put their address, 1965 McDonald Ave Brooklyn NY 11223 in Google and take a look at what you find). The fact that Shop Digital Direct has the camera for $905, versus $1,799.95, isn’t clear cut proof that shopdigitaldirect is a new Brooklyn-based bait and switch website, but it is a strong indication that it is.
It’s interesting that Diduprice lists ShopDigitalDirect as a “trusted seller” with five stars, even though it appears that this site just popped up. Another indicator is their “company policy” page, which you can see here. Note that it appears that someone sloppily inserted “shopdigiatldirect” throughout the page, replacing the name of whatever other bait and switch site they were using. The second paragraph reads:
“At, ShopDigitalDirect.com , we are committed…”
I’m unable to find who the site is registered to.
I’ll keep my eye out for proof these guys are bogus. But if you are looking to purchase a Nikon D300, or any other camera, you would be well advised to stay away from shopdigitaldirect.com. They won't sell you the item for the advertised price unless you agree to buy overpriced accessories that end up negating any "deal."

I was searching for the lowest price on a Canon 40D just now.. found some unbelievable prices at http://www.photodynasty.com Ha, yeah right. Exactly the same thing you found. I ended up doing a search on the BBB site for photodynasty.com Here is are the results.
http://search.newyork.bbb.org/reports.aspx?pid=44&page=1&id=12668
or go to the bbb site and try it yourself. I didn't get any results for the shopdigitaldirect.com site though. Thought it was interesting though!
Thanks, I just saw their site was copyright 2008 so I figured i would google them and found your site. Thanks for the review, I called ordered a camera from thecameraprofessionals.com and never got it so I called and they said my order was cancelled and didn't even know my name and hung up on me. I never got charged luckily but they have me scared, I will just go pay full price at best buy!
What exactly is a switch and bait website? Do they take your money and run? I was online looking for the GY-HD100U and shopdigitaldirect.com popped up with a price of $1,687 and I admit I got a little excited. I too feel very cautious about it since everyone else seems to be selling it for $4,000. I did find a website that was selling the camera for $2,600 refurbished. Cautious nature had me look around on the website for more info about the company and all I could seem to find is your post.
Ok here is the skinny. I saw that Shop Digital Direct had the Sony Z7U for around $2900 which is $3000 less than B&H. So I called Sony. They told me that if Digital Direct drops the U then it is a Gray Market camera...which they did in their final description. So I called and they promised that it was under US warranty and it must have been a typo. BUT when asked how they can sell the camera for $3K less than B&H "it has no lens". Go figure. That is not said in their description. As a matter of fact they include a lens filter and a lens warranty which would lead you to think there is of course a lens. Avoid these guys they are showing their true colors. Remember if it is too good to be true, then it most likely isn't!
I bought a sony projector on their site, then I got an email from them saying to call them.
They said the projector I bought didn't include the bulb and that I could add it for another $450.
I told them to cancel the order.
BAIT and SWITCH
After calling shopdigitaldirect.com, it appears that their "scam" may be that they fail to include with each item the standard accessories that are normally included. For example, they sell the Canon Digital Rebel XTi for significantly less than other companies, but they do not include the battery and charger, which other companies do include. If you also purchase a battery and charger, the total price for the camera plus battery and charger at shopdigitaldirect.com comes out to be similar to the popular large companies 42nd St Photo and B&H.

The whois data for shopdigitaldirect.com is also weird.

very helpful post guys.... saved my ass!!
are you kidding me i JUST ordered a nikon d40 from them
I ordered the Nikon D300 - have received a message to phone them - if I tell them to cancel do you suppose they will? Wish I had found this site prior to ordering!
Same deal as the rest of you.
I ordered a Pentax K20D.
I phoned to confirm. After 20 minutes on hold, the guys tries to sell batteries that are supposed to be in the box. I decline.
All the sudden the camera is in Japan and will take 6 weeks to get when their site claims 6 days. So I canceled my order.
Scam artists...
I called Visa to let them know.
I ordered a Canon G9 camera from them. The web site said it was in stock. I called to make sure the next day, and was asked which battery I wanted with it. I said just the one that comes with it. They said none comes with it and cancelled the order on the spot. Good old BaitAndSwitch.com
Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, are you listening?
Same. They are scam artists. It's a horrible experience. They are not for real. DO NOT ORDER ANYTHING FROM THEM.
I almost couldn't pass up the deal on a Mitsubishi HC1500 DLP projector for $639.00 with free shipping no less. That's about $200 less than anywhere else. I was this close to buying it, but finally had the sense to Google their website and found yours. Can't thank you enough for taking this burden upon yourself to help others. Like another person commented before me, the projector probably didn't come with a bulb.
I just ordered a Pentax K20D online and for surprise the credit card wasn't charged yet. Later I received an email without subject, to call Ken for order confirmation, very suspicious.
Then I went to my bank to cancel the charges from previous night purchase, everything so far is fine. But do not call them, they will add other cost no matter what. Stay away from shopdigitaldirect. They are thefts.
Well, for what it's worth...if you really think these folks should not be selling on the web...you can hit them where it hurts. Here's what I mean. One person suggested that DiduPrice.com is nothing more than a front...to make you think that they're a legit review site. This person suggested that DiduPrice.com is actually connected to shopdigitaldirect.com.
Well, when you do a search on Google for Nikon D300, for example, the search results tell you that (as of today, 2008-08-19) DiduPrice.com appears in the paid, Google AdWords section of the search results that are returned. So, complain to Google about DiduPrice.com's tactics (if you truly believe they are connected with Shopdigitaldirect.com.) Because Google is taking DiduPrice.com's money to appear in the top listings.
Furthermore, if you scroll to the bottom of the DiduPrice.com page for the Canon 40D, or the Nikon D300, you see other ads. See at the very bottom? Those are Google AdSense Ads. Every time you click on one of those ads, Google pays DiduPrice.com. So, again...if you feel the DiduPrice.com is shady as well, complain to Google...because DiduPrice.com is also a Google AdSense customer. Surely, if Google knew that they were connected with people engaging in shady business practices...they would not like it. This threat probably carrys more weight than the BBB. Complain to Google, provide supporting documentation, and get a sight banned from Google...and that's how you prevent scammers from being on the web. For what it's worth.
Thieves and brigands. Liars.
Stay far away....
You guys are forgetting the big scammer is www.diduprice.com they rec. these guys as trusted seller. Maybe they are the same guys look how they promote the low priced shops. Always look for the address on the website, no address it is probably a scam. Then check www.register.com it will tell you who owns the website. For all you know it could be somebody in Russia and you'll have a hard time getting your money back.
Thanks for the great information. I almost ordered a Canon G9 from them and was about to submit my order when I decided to do a more complete Google search. I found your blog just in time.
Same story as everyone else here. Tried to order a Canon Rebel XTi on-line. Next day got the e-mail to call. Was told the camera I ordered was a Chinese version which would take 6-8 weeks to deliver. Said I'd wait. Was then told to get the price I'd have to order 40 of them. ???????????? Cancelled the order. Called the C/C company. They had already charged my account for the camera and lense, and then added a restock charge after I cancelled the order. From the on-line order to the cancellation has been 19 hours. Stay clear of these scammers.
I was wanting to buy a projector, and found them the same way you did through diduprice.com. The projector was 300 dollars cheaper than retail. I called them and asked them why they're projector was so cheap. They paused for a moment and said "we try to provide the most competitive prices". Then I said "your item is 300 dollars cheaper than competitors, how are you making profit. Who are you buying it from?" And they said "have a good day, sir" and hung up. SO THIS IS A SCAM!!
I did a search on BBB for these guys and nothing came up. Why don't you guys report them to the BBB and the state commissioners office rather then just complaining about it online?
btw: Thank you for your complaining! I was just about ready to hit the order button on their website!!
I would also like to thank you guys for posting your comments. My dad is a camera junky, but not computer literate and recently discovered the amount of savings he could buy online. I have now become his PA for his online shopping. He wanted to buy the Nikon 70-200mm Len's and my uncle a Sony HVR-A1 from them. I told him to hold off and let me find out if they're legit. My intuition about this was it was to good to be ture. By the sound of things for the amount of money that is at risk its not worth it.
I would like to join the chorus of folks who would like to thank you for your warning concerning "Shop Digital Direct". Like another commenter, I was looking for the HC1500 and found it for well under the more reputable outlets' prices. It's definitely true about things which sound too good to be true.
I just got ripped off.
I should of googled it and then I came here.
almost happened to me too guys a few minutes ago, then i noticed no DESCRIPTION Of what I am getting and that the Sony HDRFX1 for $999 was a deal. yeah well guy answered said it was ntsc unless marked PAL and then i finally asked if lens included. No. Well then I thought STILL cheaper with them... then I found this complaint board. So i suggest we ALL contact the NY Attorney General, FBI E division and BBB. Riduculous. A few months ago I got scammed with a truck mover who almost stole my car.... its' getting worse out there. Thanks everyone... i will just have to purchase a used Sony VX2100 unstead of the TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE. thanks again you all
Hmm, I really feel stupid now. I ordered a Canon GL2 at a great price, ha ha!, then decided to check other stores prices and got a little suspicious and found this blog, immediately called the CC but their office was closed and couldn't talk to anybody about this scam so I reported it stolen through automated service on the phone, hopefully nothing will happen. I'll wait until 8 am to call the CC again to explain. Hopefully the CC won't be charge, if it was, a big lesson to learn. I have no idea how I felt for this one :(. You guys can save somebody's money, perhaps I did after reading this wonderful blog, thanks guys.
Follow up to previous post. CC was closed last night when I called, then called again this morning to explain and the girl told me there was charge of $1.00 that is actually a charge just to verify the account number and no charge for the camera ($699), so it was closed just in time. I would like to see their faces now, just waiting to call me or email me about it.
What a relief, thought I pass the info. No harm done :).
Classic BAIT & SWITCH! (Shopdigitaldirect.com A650 IS) These guys are out to upsell and trap you with add ons! Please DO NOT support this BAD Business and mix them in with Legitimate sellers of US Products! They havean "in store - US Warranty" your low price camera is grey market and can take 4-8 weeks to be delivered.... etc. Feel free to email for any additional info - This is FRAUD! Regards, John.
ADVICE: Cancel your credit card immediately.
However note that my credit card company refused to cooperate and declined to cancel any transaction. Can anyone offer a better remedy?
Honestly, it baffles me that some people are so darn gullible to believe that they can pick up various things such as D-SLR's for dirt cheap and not think anything is odd about the deal. Use your head, people. If the deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is!!! Do your research before buying any electronic components, and ALWAYS buy from a well known and reputable site. Avoid places like this shopdigitaldirect.com You WILL get ripped off. And, a big tip off is the use of an email saying to contact them. This is almost always an indication of bait & switch scam operation. Be careful out there!
These prices are way too good to be true...on both cameras (Canon 5d) and Lenses (especially the Canon "L" series). Be warned, You'll either get nothing, or worse you'll get grey market or knock-off merchandise that will not be worth your time proving it's fake just to recoup your money.
Stay clear of www.ShopDigitalDirect.com - it's a scam! No legitimate business could or would lose money like they would with these prices!!
First, let me thank you all for saving my ass. I just tried to buy the Canon XSI for about half of what others were paying. I knew it was too good to be true. They emailed me the next day and said that I needed a charger and batter for another $200 plus a memory card and uv filter. Needless to say I canceled my order. STAY AWAY FROM SHOPDIGITAL DIRECT!
Thank you for saving me from a big hassle. I found shopdigitaldirect.com at the duduprice.com site. I was really excited about their prices and was ready to place the order online for a Canon XSi and figured let me check them out. It is bizarre that diduprice has them as a "trusted seller" with 5 stars, but when I clicked the stars no reviews popped up.
I also did a whois search and found it odd that shopdigitaldirect has their info private and the domain was registered last year. I also found this to be the case of other low priced sellers of camera equipment with privacy activated on their domain registry.
That being said, just because someone has the contact info doesn't mean much either. Supposedly ICANN is cracking down and making sure the contact info is correct with the threat of domain owners losing the domain.
I wonder how many sites this shopdigitaldirect person is operating. It can't just be one.
Complete scam site through and through.
If it sounds too good to be true, IT IS!
I got burned as well. I wish I had seen your blog before buying. I purchased an Olympus SP570UZ for 399$ with an executive package. I received my camera and had been charged $819. When I called to return the camera they threatened me with a 20% restocking fee based on their bogus price. I am still trying to get the items promised in the exec. package. This was a costly mistake. These guys are evil!
OMG, i am glad i googled the website before i made a purchase. i am seriously considering getting a G9 from them since they list it at 249 base price; sounds too good to be true, and it turns out that's exactly what's going on. i can't believe schemers like these can stay in operation as long as it has. gosh i felt goosebumps reading these comments. thanks for the rescue.
moreover, resellerratings.com has some first hand experience reviews of this website if anyone need more varification,
http://www.resellerratings.com/store/Shop_Digital_Direct#reviews
Same with 1WayPhoto; PhotoDynasty
Chris@shopdigitaldirect.com,
I find your email very interesting. I talked to "Victor" yesterday and he told me the product was in stock but tried to sell me upgraded projector bulbs. Then I had to "Reorder" since you no longer take Discover. This sounds an awful lot like you suddenly don't have it in stock because I didn't purchase the special bulb.
Please let me know why it was in stock yesterday when I took the call and email from Victor. Your web site still says "in stock". Your web site still says you take Discover.
Note: This is a classic "Bait and Switch" operation that deserves to be outed and prosecuted for what they are: rip-off artists.
Thank you

Thanks to you all, I was almost going to buy the Panasonic PT-AX100U which was a good price about 20% less than others.
Now, if you all think we should do something about this. Here is my humble idea.
They pay adwords (i.e., google) for every click a user makes to their site. This could be as low as 10 cents to as high as 2 dollars.
Since their site seems to show up on top of the sponsored links, we can use that.
So, all you have to do is search for electronic gadgets in google and once their site shows up.. Click it :)). You do this say 10 times in a week and lets say 10 of does this.. you do the math :))..
Folks, remember to lodge a complaint with your credit card company against these people. The merchant banks will yank their account if they get a certain number of complaints.
Its funny how a new item being half priced even elicits a nod from reasonable people. With that said, I am glad I saw your blog prior to sending my visa info to shop digital direct for a Canon g9. Thanks for being a positive part of humanity!
CRAP! I can't believe this. I almost hit the send buttong for a canon 40d. This site is amazing and I want to thank every single person that shared their story! This is the most umbelievable save your A*# I have ever experienced. THANKS AGAIN!!!!
All- i thought it was too good to be true. A Canon Digital Rebel Xsi for $299! Outstanding! Thank you all for reviewing. I won't buy, but, if any of you have, please let the BBB and Google know that you were hosed by these people.
What I wrote to the Internet Crime Center at https://complaint.ic3.gov/default.a
On Aug 21 I found an ad at: http://shopdigitaldirect.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=7729 stating that I could purchase the camera for $339.00 with free shipping using the United States Postal Service with an approximate delivery time of 6 to 8 days. I ordered the camera using my Bank Debit Card. I received the following receipt.

On Aug. 23 I received a phone call from a man who said his name was Ken, representing Shop Digital Direct. He stated that the camera I ordered was a "Grey Market" camera, and that if I wanted the American version I would have to pay another $149.00. I told him I would wait and he stated that he would just cancel the order. I told him that I didn't want to cancel the order. And he said, "Fine! Expect it in six to eight weeks"!
I am not the only victim of this fraud. Below are links to others who have fallen victim to these people and even a link for the NY BBB who lists other names these people are using. And other phone numbers as well.
Thank you.
Jim

I had all the same things happen now I am dealing with my credit card co to get my money back. We all need to report
www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov
Hopefully something will be done!
You know, when it rains it pours. I'm looking for a Nikon D200 with a couple of lenses, but I would like to share this other story first. I'm selling a bike on a popular bike selling website, and it has only been up there for 2-days. I get this call from a company called One Stop Motors trying to get $499 out of my to advertise my bike on all the major search engines. As I'm talking to this guy, I'm searching for the One Stop Motors, and I get hits on Ripoffreport.com, complaintsboard.com, and a lot of others. They all say the same thing. Scam and ripoff artists. That was just an hour ago. So back to the camera. I've wanted the D200 for a while now and have visited shopdigitadirect many times drooling over the price. So today I was going out to order it, but because of the experience an hour ago, I decided to Google shopdigitaldirect, and low and behold, this site pops up. I almost made a big mistake. Thank you for your service. Can I paypal you donation to keep up the good work?
I just saw this... Man I feel so stupid. So i will try to call and cancel the order and call my debit card company and have them place a stop payment on the account.
Very tempting when you see the price on ShopDigitalDirect.com. Glad I did the research before I buy my Nikon D80. Thanks for posting these comments. Also, don't buy from 1Wayphoto.com I believe they are also switch and bait.
I nearly bought a Canon Vixia HV 30 for half price...
thanks so much for all your warnings!
I'm so glad I looked this up!
Is everyone so greedy and STUPID?!?! What is one of the most quoted axioms regarding this sort of thing? "If a deal sounds too good to be true, IT IS!!!!!" What incentive would a business owner have selling wares at obviously less than cost? The only way they could do that was if the merchandise was STOLEN! The moment I saw these two, PhotoDynasty and ShopDigitalDirect, selling items for less than 1/2 the price every other seller was charging, it was more obvious to me that this was a scam than that Paris Hilton is an idiot! I can't believe how many people ordered from them. I guess the stupifying of America is going along quite well.....

Geez... You are SO much smarter than the rest of us. Would you consider being our leader? Of course, I meant our "Anonymous" leader. I'm sure you've never screwed ip, and we want to be JUST LIKE YOU!
Please say you will lead us.
Uncle Jim
thanks for putting this out there. I was looking for a samsung ln52a860 tv and they were selling it for about 1000 under list shipping included.
seemed too good for me so i checked them out. nothing on bizrate nor the free review site they quoted and then i found this blog. appreciate it. - cw
This site save me a hell of a lot of money and mountains of frustration. Thank you. I wish I did the research on Shopdigitaldirect.com before I wasted all my time on their website. It's amazing what we will convince ourselves just to get the deal. I was all happy thinking about the money I was saving and convincing myself that the money I was saving was due to the store not having to pay brick and mortar costs of operation.

Thank you, thank you! How do these guys get away with this FALSE advertising?
Don't buy from shopdigitaldirect.com
The will scam you. I wanted to buy a Sony HDR-SR12 and they clam to have it for $300 to $700 cheaper then anyone. I called and asked if it was a factory seal from Sony and said yes and hung up on me. I called back and went to a different callers option and asked again how they could sell it for so much cheaper AND the truth came out. It is only the body and nothing else. Their site doesn't say that. He told me if I wanted everything that comes with it, it would cost $1100. Big jump from their $499 so called DEAL. Stay away from these LOSERS.
Wow. I saw the unbelievable price for the Canon 40-D and immediately became suspicious. Thank G-d for blogs like this! Prices like that just don't happen!
Oh, and for the person thats post starts like "Is everyone so greedy..."- Well, it looks like most of us on here were suspicious enough to CHECK AROUND first, thank you! For those who didnt, maybe they are some of the very few that still have faith that people/companies will do the right thing!!
SHAME ON YOU, "SDD"!!! I hope you all rot in jail! BUYER BEWARE!
Correction: in my above post I mentioned the wrong camera. I meant to say "Nikon D-40" (instead of Canon). I've been looking at so many cameras today, lol.
Yeah, the guy at digital direct was very rude and would not let me cancel an order even though it had not shipped yet. After a long conversation he finally gave me a physical address
1965 McDonald Street
Brooklyn, NY 11223
And when I asked to speak to someone in customer service he said that he is also the customer service rep. Definitely a small-time scam.
If that really IS their actual address. They probably operate out of someone's residence somewhere. And even if they do have an actual rental building- they probably got a short term lease so that after they make several thousands of $, they can then up and leave at any given time.
Does "Fly by Night" come to mind?
I emailed them asking them to verify the surreal price on a camera. I have yet to hear from them. Guess they're not in too much of a hurry since I'm not on the phone with them giving them my card info!!
Oh, and when I emailed them I told them to verify that this item IS in stock, is GENUINE and not refurbished or used, that there will be NO add-on's, extra charges, changes in my order, etc. And to verify that shipping was indeed totally FREE and that I will not be charged a DIME over the camera's listed price.
Doubt I'll hear back from them, anybody care to place bets? ;)
What a waste of time. These guys are slime. Do they really think people will fall for bait and switch tactics? I ordered a Canon HV30 camcorder and received the obvious email saying I needed to call to confirm my order. The guy lied to me and tried to get me to buy accessories that I didn't need and already came with the camcorder. Why be so stupid with this type of short term thinking.
Thank goodness I found this site BEFORE I placed my order..my internal warning system was going off! ;)
Thank goodness I found this site BEFORE I placed my order..my internal warning system was going off! ;)
When I first even GLANCED at a bogus price for a Pentax K200d from one of these places website, I immediately became suspicious and checked out further.
And thank you to the person that mentioned the link to where you can check online companies out! I followed the link, and sure enough- these clowns received NOT ONE positive comment!
Heres the link again: (Please help get the word and this link out there!):
http://www.resellerratings.com/rlist-s1-n2.html
WOW!!! That was close!!! I ordered a Nikon D300 from these guys then my budy called and told me to read these comments. Luckily, I had placed the order on Saturday and the order hadn't gone thru yet (Sunday morning). But what a hassel trying to get it cancelled!! First they said I couldn't do it untill Monday morning! What's up with that?? So I put a credit hold on my card so it wouldn't be authorized. Whatta ya know about 15 minutes later I get a call from shopdigitaldirect.com!!
"Did you order a camera?"
"yeah, I want to cancel that"
"OK, it's canceled." I think they were trying to get another card number, but thanks to this site, they aren't getting any of my money!! I've learned my lesson, "DO YOUR HOME WORK ON THE STORE AS WELL AS THE PRODUCT!!"
Scammer... try ordering a Nikon D80SLR body for $299 shipped. it will be out of stock if you do not buy battery for $149... TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE.... they will cancel your order if they cannot upsell you.. everycheap item they have posted will be out stock if they cannot upsell you... I just proved it... 3 Nov 2008... you can also try their other websites like photodynasty... shopdigitaldirect... will f--k with you all day.... TRY...
A big thanks!
Thank you so much. God bless this site. I was originally thinking that the cameras/etc. were refurbished, hence the low price, but seeing this website at the top once I searched through, I've just been saved a tremendous headache. A bit disappointed that I can't get that camera for so cheap, but more than happy for the help.
Thanks guys, and sorry for your losses.
I actually managed to buy a Panasonic FZ8 for $155 last year from a similar "bait and switch" seller. I had to fight for it, though. fortunately the search engine listing the seller was co-operative and got the seller to honor his low price. After that, their price on the FZ8 went up by $55.
Knowing that Shop digital direct would be a dubious operation, I decided to try ordering a Canon HV30, which they listed at the great price of $309. Afdter a couple of days with no confirmation of my order, I called them - and of course they tried to persuade me to buy a 4 hr, 6hr or 9hr battery and charger, and claoimed that I wouldn't be able to use the camcorder without them! Nonsense, of course, so I just asked for my order to go thu for just the camcorder with the battery that came with it. I was the n told that it was "sold out" and that they "wouldn't have any more in until after Christmas".
I then emailed DidUPrice?com to complain about Shop Digital Direct, who of course are listed with a five-star "trusted seller" rating. no response at all.
I've submitted a complaint report to the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3), and would encourage mre people to do so. We have to drive these scumbags out of business. It reminds me of the old three card trick they used to do in New York - same kind of criminal mentality behind it. you just know when you speak to these people on the phone that they are mean as hell, and only concerned with money.
Since I was never remotely interested in buying very over-priced accessories with my camcorder, I was never in danger of falling for thier scam - but it makes me mad to think of what they might be able to do with some little old lady buying christmas presents.
Thanks for putting up this page, that comes up when you google "Shop Digital Direct" or "Bait and switch" - and I hope it serves to prevent people from being conned out of their money.
In reading this forum and similar others, I've noted the common tricks these a$$es use. If you're in the market to buy in the future, it would be wise to ask the following questions that can help determine if companies are genuine or bogus:
Ask them to verify that the item IS in stock, and if it is in stock whether or not you buy "add on's."
Ask if the item comes with the typical assessories that it is SUPPOSED to, and hasn't been STRIPPED and sold separately.
Ask if it is GENUINE and not refurbished, used, or generic. And most importantly, if it is the US version!
Make them put these things in writing, get their name, and make them send you an email confirming all the above.
Better yet, tell them you will be sending an email confirming all the above and to return your email with an understanding and approval of your terms.
Recap: don't forget to tell them that you will ONLY agree to a charge for the EXACT item you are ordering, with NO mysterious changes in your order whatsoever, NO swapping/ NO substitutions, etc. And verify the EXACT shipping/handling charges, any fees, etc.
Then make them send you an invoice with the EXACT charges before you agree. Better yet, check them out first to see if they're reputable. And always remember that if it SEEMS too good a price to be true, its usually a scam!
Thanks guys!. This blog saved my ass...I was about to order a canon f\2.8 IS lens. I am glad that I did a little more research on shopdigitaldirect before ordering the lens.
This blog is an excellent source of educational information regarding sellers with a varied history of performance. Thank You. Unfortunately, I do not see any comments that are favorable regarding "Shopdigitaldirect.com". I am interested in a complete investigation. My name is Andre Z.. I have an email at andrez@cox.net. I have previously researched a similar site, Prestige Camera, located in Broklyn, New York. They are now listed by Google as 315 E 89th St
Brooklyn, NY 11236
(718) 257-5888. In 2002 I purchased a camera from Royal Camera in Brooklyn. They also had a bad reputation, yet I received the merchandise.
There is a tremendous volume of literature and photo investigation of Prestige. The warranty page for this vendor looks amazingly similar to Prestige's warranty. The problems are also similar. The products are usually grey market, which can sometimes be very acceptable, except the remaining items in the standard box may be eliminated.
It should be noted that many purchasers tried to have Prestige Camera investigated by the new York Attorney General, yet they are still in business. They must be doing something right. Similarly, fry's had a terrible reputation on the West Coast. Today, they are considered a reputable retailer. You must decide for yourself, and if you decide to do business with these discounters, you should take adequate steps to guarantee that you obtain what you are bargaining for. If you want to get a good deal, I suggest you enter into an enforceable contract with the vendor, with the state jurisdiction being your own state. Further, you may wish to have your credit card company guarantee shipping within 24 hours or have the credit card company cancel the sale and block the vendor. In a world with changing international exchange rates, it is possible to get a good deal, but first investigate terms, quantity, price, shipping, guaranteed delivery, items to be included, warranty, and upgrade status (CMOS, etc) before making a purchase. If any promises are made, include them in in any purchase agreement, and then issue a purchase order that must be accepted before any transaction is completed.
In general, you get what you pay for, but a good deal is possible in international markets if you understand the terms. as for myself, I plan to carefully investigate any camera seller before I buy their product. I will contact SONY and ask if the product will be supported, and if there are any defective or off-beat similar products that may be marketed in place of the camera I am considering.
I ordered a Canon HV30 camcorder and received the obvious email saying I needed to call to confirm my order. The guy lied to me and tried to get me to buy accessories that I didn't need and already came with the camcorder.
Thanks,
Mallett
Just ordered a nikon d40 from shopdigitaldirect.com and got the "you need a battery and other accessories" bit. I bought in paid after everything was said and done over two hundred dollars more than original price. He had me feeling good about what I had gotten for the money. "Professional accessories" he said. I feel sick to my stomach.
Hey everyone, I know not everyone will read this far into the post (you can tell its a scam with the first 100 posts), but for those that have been ripped off please report your crime to www.ic3.com they handle this sort of thing.
Shop digital direct has 3 other companies that are suspected of being ran by the same guys, as well as quite the array of registered by proxy domains. Even their listed hosting provider host24web is a phony and registered by proxy.
Many thanks for this blog. I just started shopping for a new HDV camcorder and the prices at SHop Digital Direct were just too good to be true, so I Googled, this site was listed at the top, and yes, I read it all. Thanks all for posting. I think there is a lot here that can be distilled and put out as a guide to online shoppers.
One strategy to use, is to ask for a quote, that you need it in order to be able to cut a purchase order. Insist that the quote include a complete list of parts, manuals, etc. that goes with each item.
Purchased a Nikon D90 after reading a google ad that read, "Black Friday special.... ships today!" I didn't think much of the low price because of Black Friday. Then I received a "confirmation" e-mail that was very unspecific. It did not say what I ordered, and when what will be shipped. It just said, " your order is confirmed, please call today by PHONE only for any changes." I call to confirm, and about 15 minutes, some guy with an Indian accent picks up, and says " I have to transfer you to another department, " and then hangs up. I call again, another 15 minutes, and the SAME guy SAME accent picks up and now says that my order will ship NEXT YEAR JANUARY 15TH! I tell him that I have to cancel in that case, and he HANGS UP AGAIN!
Got a sick feeling, googled, and found about all the complaints on the web. As I have read from another victim, American Express will not help or block charges unless a charge has already been made by the merchant. So then I could not find my card (lost from traveling) and called my credit card company for card replacement.
Thanks guys. I'm so glad this site is here. You just saved me a lot of money and headache.
second phone number for shopdigitaldirect.com (718) 306-1552
I wish I would have done a Google search and found out what a scam website shopdigitaldirect.com is. I placed an order with them and wish that I had not. I had to cancel my credit card and have Discover issue me a new card. The only contact I have from them is an obscure e-mail below
Thank you for your recent order with us. Please contact us at 888-313-7468ext.283 so that we may confirm your order with you. Please make sure to press my extension (283) as I will personally be handling your order.
Thank you,
Ken
I have filed a complaint with the New York and AGs Office. There IP hosting address is in Texas so I also filed a complaint there. I also found a second phone number for shopdigitaldirect.com (718) 306-1552 They are Scammers. The phone number is for this Ken it is a land line located in Brooklyn, NY. I am also contacting Google.com. I found this website using Google Addwords. I have stock with Google and cannot believe they allow such a shady website doing business with them. This is a lawsuit waiting to happed with Google. When shopdigitaldirect.com sent their billing invoice it did not include a price or description of the item. Two of the three material terms required by New York State Code to complete a contact. As this is not a valid contract no court will enforce it and shopdigitaldirect.com cannot require a restocking fee of any kind or a change to the material terms unless you as the buyer agree to it. I would suggest that everyone file a complaint with the New York AGs office.
Like most others, I too was almost burnt by the "too good to be true" product price. I did place the order even though I initially couldn't believe the price. I could only believe that "Cyber Monday" coupled with an ailing economy, is driving sale prices nearing cost, to dump as much as possible. Still didn't make a lot of sense but it was what I wanted to believe......hec, I had been searching and when I found this canon hf11 for 1/2 price! I had to buy it. I almost got greedy and bought the nikon D90 too! BUT, being a knowledgeable buyer, I didn't bite on the over priced expedited shipping and I laughed when I saw flash memory selling for 2003 prices!! So I ordered the base product ONLY and chose ground shipment. I too got the confirming email crap. I called at 7pm EST to just hear someone tell me I wasn't dreaming. Instead I got a vm stating sales closed at 8:30pm, call again tomorrow. Ok, but it was only after 7pm!! I then saw this site and immediately called amex. They confirmed my card had not been charged and they cancelled the card. I will have a new one in 24 hours. Unfortunately even though it may seem there are a lot of us here escaping being victimized the FACT is for every 10 of us NOT being ripped off, there are more than 10 BEING RIPPED OFF!!!
Thanks for making this informative site available!
Thank you for posting this information. I was purchasing a camera from them up until i saw this site. I canceled the purchase and put my bank on alert for a fraudulent charge.
thanks guys for saving my ar$$. almost put my order on canon G10. they asking $309 while everyone else wants $430... had the feeling something is wrong. i'm really impressed that they are functionning as legitimate business. where is BBB?
and other agencies paid for by us, taxpayers?
From what I've read here it sounds like these guys are just collecting credit card numbers. If you gave them yours, I'd suggest you cancel your card asap.
These guys ARE fishing for credit card information. I tried to order a Nikon D80 from each of the following companies:
*1Way Photo (http://www.1wayphoto.com/)
*PhotoDynasty (http://www.photodynasty.com)
*Razz Photo (http://www.razzphoto.com)
*Sonic Cameras (http://www.soniccameras.com)
*Shop Digital Direct (www.ShopDigitalDirect.com)
*The Camera Professionals (thecameraprofessionals.com)
None of my orders resulted in shipping of the desired item. Several resulted in calls from salesmen trying to add batteries that presumably were not included with the body (even though a search showed cameras ARE to be included in the box). All but one of the orders were cancelled by the "merchants". Since I did not have complete trust in any of the above companies I used one credit card for these orders. A few days back the bank of this credit card called me to verify a $1.00 charge that had been placed by a dubious merchant. Since this merchant's name did not come close to any of the companies listed above, I think the above companies are TRADING CREDIT CARD INFORMATION in addition to trying to talk costumers into adding overpriced items during phone calls following an order. The bank told me the $1.00 charge to verify my credit card was legitimate would likely be followed by charges for large amounts. So even if you or the merchant cancelled an order you made online with the above listed companies, be aware that the credit card information provided at the time of the online purchase may be used for future unauthorized charges to your account. The bank of my visa advised me to cancel the card immediately, which I agreed to.
Many Adorama customers recommend consulting the following links before passing on your credit card details to any company.

I made the mistake of orderinga camera throguh ShopDigitalDirect.com. It was a Canon XSi at $299, when every othjer vendor is at least 2x that. It had been on backorder for MONTHS... but I would occasionally check on order status. Only on the last check did they tell me that I would have to take the camera to an authorized Canon dealer to get the firmware for the camera, as it is an oversees model... mind you, that will cost approx $325 to $350 (according to SDDirect C.Service rep). That would explain the low upfront cost! However, NOWHERE on their site does this product say that it does not include the firmware! Very sneaky!! AVOID, AVOID, AVOID!
I can't believe these people... I was looking for a new camcorder for our new addition and came across these prices... well this is the best blog and many thanks to all of you who reported this... saved me and my wife a bunch of heartache... THANKS AGAIN and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!
Guys, onemore thanking you. I was eyeing the EOS XSi Package #12 when I found thi blog. Of course, I din't order (and believed I saved my self a lot of trouble)
I have been so close to ordering a canon 50d from shopdigitaldirect.com all week. Last minute i though about it and realized.....yup exactly what i thought. Thanks for the warnings
ShopDigitalDirect.com set up Diduprice.com.
BUY BUY BUY make several hundred fake orders, waste their time, have your friends call, and your friends friends call. Shut them down. And have fun. it is theraputic.......
i had the sense to check out shopdigitaldirect before purchasing. the price was too good to be true. when you are shopping you should never have a sense of "is this legit, let me try to read the fine print" - if you even get that sort of inkling then you shouldn't be buying. because of this i will only buy from a real store's website (ie, Best Buy's website, Circuit City's website, etc). it needs to be connected to an actual store that i can physically walk in to complain if a problem exists. only exception is newegg.com since i've bought from them before.
when i went to shopdigitaldirect i saw numerous red flags:
1. the prices were insanely low. there's a difference between charing $50 than other places and charging $200. to charge to significantly lower means its either a scam, you're buying a refurbished item or it's off the back of a truck.
2. the website layout. this is one of those free layouts you can get from a "free website layout template" site. the text in some places wasn't sharp. overall not a very professional looking site.
3. no customer reviews. you should be able to read the reviews of hundreds of people who have also shopped at that place. stores that have nothing to worry about have no problem letting customers voice their opinion on their shopping experience.
www.disgustingclaire.blogspot.com
I bought a amera from them on 12/16, they called me and said it would be $899 for the retail version and even more with batteries. I told them to cancel the order, they said they would be they will be charging me $450 for a restocking fee. The salesman wwas a bully and was rude. I would have kicked the shyt of of the guy if he were standing in front of me. I reported them to the Federal Trade Commision for illegal sales operations. I wish I would have done more research before making the order. STAY AWAY!!!!
These guys are bad. They called me up asking if I wanted a battery with my camera that I was about to purchase and that raised the price to the best price I could have gotten elsewhere. I should have canceled the order immediately but I went ahead and paid the extra amount. Then someone use my credit card information and I had to cancel my credit card. They should be put out of business.
Hey everybody! My cc company retrieved their information. It is the same address as everyone else has, but dial 718-627-6066 and as soon as you hear the automated voice, dial 277. This will get you to Jack Gauchi, Treasurer, but actually it goes to Elizabeth, his secratary's number. Keep calling her and harrass them. This seems to be the best thing i've done all year long. I've also reported them to the FBI, BBB, and Distric Attorney, and I have filed a Law Suit in small claims court against them. This should get interesting!
yeah guys dont order from shopdigitaldirect. I placed an order for an Xh a1 because i was so amazed by the price, it was 3000 less than normal. So i ordered it, they sent me an official billing email just like any normal company would but then nothing happened. The money was never taken from my account.
Then randomly they call my cell phone and say "We cant send your order to a PO Box, we need an physical address" so i gave them my address and then i started to ask questions like how long it would take to get to my house(most online orders that ive had have only taken a week, two weeks max if its from like Europe) The guy said it would take 3-4 weeks. Then he asked me if i would like a battery with my order, and i was like, "wait it doesnt come with a battery?" and he said "no it doesnt, if you want to add one it will be $200 extra" and i was like "no, thats ridiculous, i dont want to pay $200 for a battery that i know costs $25 on ebay" So i started asking why it would take 3-4 weeks to ship my camera when suddenly the phone cut out. Or at least thats what i thought it was but now im not so sure, i think the guy probably hung up on me because i was asking too many specific questions.
Anyway like 2 weeks later someone tried to take money out of my credit card so my credit card company froze the account. I dont know if this is related or not but i think its fishy none-the-less.
Ive tried calling them on the number they have posted on their website and i just get put on hold for hours by answering machines. In my opinion, even if this is a real company, its a pretty horrible one. So dont even waste your time.
Thanks for the posts everybody. I was about to order the Canon 5D Mark II kit and googled Shop Digital Direct and thought-of dave was the second listing. I'm sur I've just been saved from a very costly mistake.
I guess the old adage is true:"If it seems like it's to good to be true, it probably is".
i was place the order hdr-sr12 sony camcorder from shopdigitaldirect online for the price of $859... for presidetial package, i pay for that from my credit card... after one week ireceived an email from adam for confirmation of my order, so i call him, he say if wanna upgrade my order coz the the battery charger not included and if i wanna upgrade my warranty for 4 years... and he charge me for 1499 dollars im crazy i make a deal for that coz he braking my nerve... after 30 mins im call back again to cancel my order coz i thought ichange my mind bec. he charge me for batt charger and 4 years warranty from $859 to $1499, big differnt for bat and warranty that supposed included from the package, he say ican't cancel my order coz i placed the order one wk ago, but isay we make deal today only after half an hr, after that i called my credit card card, im suprised they transct order to my bank, and they bill me a $1499 dollars after 30 min. i negotiate to my credit card to dispute my order to them. right now its under imbestigation from my bank. i hope soon iget my mony back.
I just canceled an order from this place. I called to verify my order and they asked me what kind of battery I wanted to go with my camera. Once they said how much for the battery I canceled my order. Stay away from this place and any others that look "too good to be true." I'll either go to Best Buy or order from B&H.
Also, stay away from SonicCameras.com...same outfit!
i also shop at B&H they dont try and get more out of you and the products are great.
"If it's looks too good to be true..."
The price quoted for a Nikon D700 was awesome. But when I saw they were selling $30 CF cards for $170 and $49 batteries for $197 I figured they were shady and Googled them, which is how I found your site. Thanks for confirming what in my gut I knew was likely the case...but the cheap price sure has its allure!
I am a college kid taking a photo journalism class. Being a college kid means I don't have a lot of $$$. When I googled Canon 50D this diduprice website came up and I about fell over after seeing a normally $1099 - 1499 camera listed for $549 on their website. Being wary as I am I called and was on hold forever before hanging up. The next day, I did the same google search and on the diduprice website it had gone up $100 overnight to $649. Determined to get to the bottom of this I called the 888 number listed. After being on hold for 15 minutes I was finally connected to someone. When I asked about this incredible price the person told me that it was a plastic bodied version and that it did not come with a battery, charger, lens, or any accessories. He said that the "US" version cost more but came with all the normal factory accessories in addition to having a magnesium body. This gentleman was very persistent and told me what I needed and what I didn't need. He tried to get me to look at the 40D which is the older model that was being replaced by the 50D for $799. When I pointed out that the 40D was listed on their website for $299 he became rude and informed me that obviously I wasn't "the sharpest pencil in the box" and told me the $799 40D was a much better deal. I was in a state of shock to be talked to like this and before I could say anything else he said "why don't you just sleep on it" and hung up. After that appalling conversation I googled shop digital direct and found this website. Obviously my experience with these people was not unique. I'm glad I did not order from them and the old adage still stands - if it sounds too good to be true it probably is. I also tried calling photo dynasty as their price was $10 more but the voice prompts sounded suspiciously similar to digital direct and I hung up.
Fortunatly I did some research prior to purchasing a D80 on Shop Digital Direct - So my question is does anyone have any recommendations as to which website to get a Nikon at a discount price? Thank you.
This site confirmed my suspicions. Was looking at their super price on Nikon D700's.
Want some fun and retaliation? Call their 800 number and get all excited about one of the cameras. Take some time explaining you might want a different one. Get them to take time explaining the differences. Decide on one. Give them bad data all up until the CC time. Then say you changed your ming and want the other camera. See how many times you can switch back and forth before they get the idea that you are scamming them back!!!! At least you're taking up that person's phone time from scamming some other innocent victim. Do this with different equipment and with different salesmen when ever you're feeling down and need a pick me up!! I may be anonymous, but my name's Troup!
i just found a forum & they had a topic about the nikon d90, two of the users recommended shopdigitaldirect to have the best deal, i checked out their website & it was too good to be true! they were selling it for almost half the price! i'm pretty glad that i googled it & then found this, pretty helpful blog entry!!
Thanks for posting these comments! I, too, had ordered a Canon Vixia HV30 for $329. Seemed too good to be true, and it was. They tried the "bait and switch" on me as well, but saying I needed an extended battery. After I said I didn't need one, they said my 2 day overnight was now going to be 7-10 business days since they were getting the camera from Canon. That seemed strange, since their website bragged how they had them in stock already. I canceled my credit card, and will now use Amazon.
SHOP DIGITAL DIRECT is BAD NEWS--Ordered a Nikon D90 in Nov.08--Still have not received it. They did try to sell me a battery shortly after I ordered. Found out today that their phone number (888-313-7468) is disconnected.
1st I will answer 1 question, I register my site via proxy. As a single woman working out of my home.. You bet I do.
But Your right on the bait & switch with shop digital direct. I bought a cheap laptop for internet cruizing so my files for my business wouldnt be accessed or god forbid it got hacked.
Well What a surprise I got when I opened it to find out it not only didn't record dvd's, it was an old Acer stock model with Walmarts sheet still in the box that Acer put together just for wally world. Hence Walmart sold their stuff & they bought it and sold it as a good computer. ( supposedly on sale) Yet when I tried to contact them, I was ignored and rudely brushed off. Was it new. I don't think so I didn't need to activate the office 2007 suite. As predicted, I've already had to redo the entire computer. Good thing it's not my business one.
As of today, the website link itself is not accessable. The link is dead, but something is showing up in the link from your 1st paragraph, but the link itself isn't.
