Bing Product Search: Not As Bad as Google

Beware of using Microsoft’s “bing” to search for cameras/camcorders.  The top sellers on their cashback program are Regal Camera (aka Broadway Photo) and Central Digital.

Here are the reviews of Broadway (currently being sued by the State of Texas), and here are the reviews of Central Digital.  Another sponsored link is bait and switch website Digital Foto Club (review).  They also have a link for fake price comparison site lowpricedigital.com.

There definitely aren’t as many bait and switch websites listed as sponsored sites, but I think it’s because no one uses Microsoft for search right now, not because Microsoft is doing a good job of vetting the merchants.  If Bing takes off, I’ll keep my eye out to make sure the other criminals (rogers camera, etc) don’t switch to Bing.

It’s disappointing to see Microsoft allow the bait and switch sites to use their sponsored links program.  If they had implemented some simple standards as to who could participate, they would have had an advantage over Google.  As it is now, I see Bing going the way of Live Search.

Bing is just Live Search with a new (but childish) name. Microsuck has a habit of changing names on their products hoping that people won't notice there isn't any improvements.
