24HrDigital.com aka 24 HR Digital: BAIT AND SWITCH

UPDATE: The reviews are in; 24 Hr Digital is a bait and switch site.  When I first posted the post below, the owner of the site sent numerous emails and posted comments, complaining (whining) that he wasn't a bait and switcher.  However, just as I suspected, 24hrdigital is in fact conducting bait and switch, as confirmed by numerous comments on resellerratings and other sites. READ THE HORRIBLE REVIEWS HERE...AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE.

The newest Brooklyn-based camera website is 24hrdigital.com, aka 24 HR digital or 24 hour digital.

As of July 9, 2010, they list the following contact info:

877-700-2424

347-462-9134

Mailing address: 1511 Brightwater Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11235

Resellerratings reviews are a bit suspicious. Four positive reviews (out of six total) appeared in the last week, all from first time reviewers.  The most recent review after that was a negative one from September 2009.

The address appears to be an apartment building or a USPS mailbox location.

As of July 9, 2010, they use similar language to two very bad bait and switch websites (my website is monitored by the Brooklyn denizens, but I save screen shots of all suspect webpages):

Techon Digital: (Resllerratings reviews - .44/10 A COMPLETE SCAM)

Additional searches turn up exact language used on us1photo.com, LMR Photo Video, and thundercameras.com.
But most damning is something a simple search for "24hrdigital" turned up:
The manager, Roman Gimelfarb, has a linkedin profile listing him as general manager at prophotonation, a complete bait and switch operation (YOU REALLY, REALLY NEED TO READ THE REVIEWS ON RESELLERRATINGS.COM!):

Google needs to start vetting its sponsored links better.
UPDATE:
The real reviews (as compared to the fake ones posted by these guys) are now appearing.  Here's a sample of what you can expect, as posted on Nextag:

"Do Not Buy. ***My sale was a BAIT & SWITCH.*** I ordered a DSLR Rebel 2Ti body with accessory kit for $555 (9-Nov-10) only to come home the next day to 3 (three) emails that I must contact the store to “verify” my order. Not only was I being told that the camera body was not the US model but an import and the battery was a lower life non LP-E8 battery, but the salesperson jumped into a high-pressure sales pitch, “Oh, you should know for that price you wouldn’t be getting an American model” and then begins harassing me to “upgrade” and increase the ordered price by well over $100. I have never made an internet purchase (and I make a lot) where this tactic was used. I’d rather spend the extra money to buy from a reputable source, my advice is stay away from this company."

"I ordered a Nikon 18-200 lens because they had the best price. After receiving an order confirmation, they called to up sell me on products I did not want and add an extra 6% insurance fee that was not on my invoice. They would not sell me the lens for the invoice price and tried to push an inferior product for the invoice price. Wasted over 20 minutes of my time on the phone haggling with them and had to hang up. The next day they canceled my order."

"Careful - This is a switch and bait website. I ordered a Nikon D90 since it showed me a lower price at checkout and in the invoice (compared to any other sellers). They later called me and told me that there are some hidden fees and the actual costs is $50 higher. Stay away from this website - its a waste of time."
Sorry Roman.  New name, same old shit.

I am roman I am the owner and i am posting this as a response of all the people that are ruining the reputation of online camera companies from brooklyn ny.

We just started our business we are not bait and switch as many people like to say yes I have worked in the past for bait and switch operations however people customers shop with confidence we have very competitive pricing we are simply regular day to day folks trying to make a living selling camera equipment.

hello fellow bloggers and photographers this is Roman Gimelfarb Owner of 24hrdigital.com. I was employed as a salesman/salesmanager at prophotonation.com for less then one month from january 3rd till january 27th I was also not paid for my work. The company operated a bait and switch operation by advertising low prices to get people to buy and not sell the products if people would not purchase any of the accessories. I left the company because they had many issues with their merchant account in the month of january and because i was reassured by the owner that he would not low ball and bait and switch customers. If you can see on reseller ratings all the reviews started coming in after january 29th and mostly in april up until the end of 2009. I wanna voice out and let fellow online consumers and photographers know that we are not all bad in brooklyn ny, There has been a new leaf thats been turned over and I feel that only way of doing business is being upfront and ethical and we at 24hrdigital.com follow these guidelines very very closely. Please feel free to browse our website www.24hrdigital.com and contact our product information and sales department for any questions about any pricing or products. And Please check out our ratings at www.resellerratings.com

Roman: Then why did you list yourself as "General Manager" on Linkedin?

Allen said...

I was 'employed' as a General Sales Manager at Prophotonation for around a month, during which time I was not paid, as the company had many problems with their merchant processing account.I listed myself on Linkedin because I was looking for a new job in the managerial field (hopefully for a photographic/electronics company). However, being that the job market was stagnant at the time (and currently) I decided to start my own business doing what I enjoy. Thanks for reminding me though, I have since changed it. I haven't thought about Linkedin in a while.

I just purchased a Cannon T2i and accessories from 24hrdigital. I was a little put off at first with the slightly less than straightforward advertising, but in the end it was worth it. Yes, 24hrdigital tried to upsale, but what salesperson doesn't? In the end I got everything I was promised for the agreed upon price and then some. I got a free camera bag and mini tripod that I wasn't expecting. Whatever anxiety I had waiting for the merchandise was worth it - these guys are legit and I saved at least $100 overall. I definitely recommend them.

Complete liars and scammers.

Check out this thread:

http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1023&thread=37042077

The "salesman" managed to do a SD card scam, a battery scam AND upgrading to higher shipping level for $28 charge without asking the buyer.

Sorry Roman/Allen whoever, you lose. 24hrDigital is a scam shop.

I must say I have never in all my years of on line ordering run into something like this. I was a bit surprised that I had a message on my machine at home after placing the order to call a salesperson. I called that night and when I asked to speak to lets say Andy, I was told to hold and 5 minutes later was speaking to "Allen".. who didn't tell me that he was not who I expected until I addressed him by name. Oh and did I mention the 1/2 hour hold time?

Needless to say after telling me the battery was not good and that the memory I ordered was not enough I somehow ended up $200 over what I expected to pay. Long story short.. told salesman I would call back next day..I did, left a VM and sent an email. I had to call again the next day to say just place my order as originally ordered. Rude person said ok and hung up.

Here is is a week later and I just got an email that due to high demand the camera is on backorder! I have purchased with another company. Too bad they are spoiling it for other new start-ups. Makes you not want to trust.

Unfreakingbeliveable - these guys just got me. Should have read the reviews. Totally bait and switch! Don't even waist your time. Once the order is placed, they call you to "confirm your address" and right away start trying to convince you to get something else. For their surprise I wanted nothing but what I ordered. After about 10 minutes of phone conversation the guy gave up and said I was going to receive the camera in 6-7 days. After a week without hearing from them I called them and they said the camera was in backorder and it was going to take about 2 months to become available. POLICE should arrest these fakers.

I ordered the Canon powershot SD1400 for 125 which is the lowest you see anywhere from 24hrdigital through NEXTtag.com. Received a message to call back for order confirmation only to hear that I need better SD and sale tatics to sell me a 4 G SD for more than 100. What a low life scum back. This is not my first internet order. I hung on them after the pressures sale. I call back alter and they told me that it was back order and I can go some where else if I want. It has been more than 2 months now and I hav enot received my order. I hope they would not charge my Credit Card. This is definitely a BAIT and SWITCH company. Can someone reports them to NEXTAG so they can not advertize their business there. It is a waste of time to buy this from this company. The stories I read matched exactly mine. This tells you that it is truely a pattern and these scum-backs should not be allow to sell anything.

You go by Allen and are the owner of 24hrdigital. You posted your own comments giving your own positive rating on 7/6/10. How stupid! No wonder you can not start a business. How can you. Stop the lies and be straight to consumers. Maybe you can go somewhere with your career. The way you conduct your business I bet you are not doing well at all.

24hrdigital.com are crooks and thieves. After cancelling my order for a Canon T1i, because it was not delivered in a timely manner, amoung other things. The order was delivered anyway and my credit card was charged $1329.94. The camera kit was returned the same day, unopened. As of today Roman (Allen) has $1329.94 of my money that he, evidently refuses to return. This makes him a thief as far as I am concerned. I plan to take legal action against Roman Gimelfarb and 24hrdigital. This guy belongs in jail!

I finally have heard from 24hrdigital.com (Roman Gamelfarb) It was unfortunate that for whatever reason, numerous attempts to get information from 24hrditital.com went unanswered. My problems with Mr. Gamelfarb are being addressed. I apologize for calling Mr. Gamelfarb a crook and a thief. I would only suggest to Mr. Gamelfarb, that in the future he try to address complaints in a more timely manner.

Steve said...

After assurances from Mr. Gimelfarb that the charges on my credit card would be reversed within 2 days I apologized to Mr. Gimelfarb on this website. It has now been a month and I have yet to receive my money back. It seems that in addition to being a thief, Mr. Gimelfarb is a liar as well. I have contacted the authorities through IC3. I would everyone to avoid any dealings with Mr. Gimelfarb and 24hrdigital.com

Almost ordered from these guys until I checked out their BBB rating.

They claim to be BBB accredited on their website and to have an A+. But I just went to the BBB website. They are NOT accredited and they have the grade F.

I also tried to purchase a Nikon3100 from 24hr digital. Sent the order in, but no e-mail confermation, finally got through on phone after 5 to 10 tries of being on hold over 30 min. Then after telling me it would be back ordered 4 wks, tried to call back for over 3 days with no answer, left message to call me, and even sent e-mail with no responce. I don't know where they get all the reports of "such good service" but I don't see it. I also went through all the upsell tac also.

Susan said...

I always do this! I should know better and should check out this stuff first, but I purchased a Canon T3i from 24hourdigital. I was so excited to find this camera at a great price. I also received the e-mail contact them to confirm the order. Then was talked into the upgrade to the special package supposedly with an upgraded battery, an upgraded charger, and other special offers. In the end I paid $200 more for a cheap camera bag and some crap accessories. I haven't opened anything yet in case I decide to try and return the stuff.

I'm sick to my stomach.

Ok, first up - "Roman Gimelfarb"... would anyone with half a brain do "business" with some clown with a name like this? Did you see his Facebook pic?! RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION!

Anonymous said...

The common cannon is to not judge a book by its cover but look at this Roman's guy facebook, consider the controversy over this bootleg website, and try to tell yourself this is a legitimate business owner with a large stockpile of electronics. It is obviously a scam when a crappy website has electronics for way less than MSRP. Ask yourself how he would be getting these products for such low prices when no reputable dealer can.

Allen I bought rebelt2i last week and you guys called me and we agreed on changing my lenses with other two. But when I got my packet one of the lenses was not in it! What kind of trusted company makes this. I don't believe that you guys are telling truth. And every time I called you I waited 10-15 min to talk somebody but couldn't. DO NOT EVER BUY SOMETHING FROM THIS WEBSITE!!!!

DIGITALELECT.COM (SCAM)
GETONDIGITAL.COM (SCAM)
THUNDER CAMERAS.COm (SCAM)
DIGITAL HUNTER.COM (SCAM)

I placed order with both the sites for Nikon D90. The website shows it is in stock and will be shipped in 24 to 48 hours. After 10 days I did not receive my order, I called to check status. First time they told me that it was on backorder and will take another 2-week.

When I called again, they told me that it does not come with firmware, which cost $300 and I will have to purchase firmware. I told them to ship me without firmware and answer I got shocked me. I was told that they can not sell me without firmware and they canceled my order on their own.

They tried to push me to buy extended life battery for $169, which is normally for $30 or so.

I have been tracking some of these website myself and found that all these sites have same content with different color. Thunder Cameras and Digital Hunter is the same website just with different color.

I'll never do business with them again.

They wanted me to call them "in order to avoid fraud." When I finally got them on the line, they wanted to cross-sell me all sorts of pricy items. I declined.

Then, they send me an email saying they were sold out and I had to wait 21+ days, but I could cancel...

Thanks all for warning the rest of us. I'm astounded this still goes on. I almost bought a Rebel T3 for 475$ Great deal, right? I was pretty excited about it.

Was worried about whether or not the warranty was legit. more than 24 Hour Digital. Oh and that guy looks like a mega-lush (facebook photo). This shit's illegal, so I'm sure he will be put away soon. Surprised it's taking so long.

Are these guys affiliated with N4digital.com and Need4Digital.com?

They run the same scam. They told my wife that the camera came with a 20 minute battery that wasn't rechargeable. Same old story.

STAY AWAY!!! They upsaled ( bait and switched or whatever you want to call it) my mother and me. Unfortunately, we fell for it! I am so upset with myself! Especially since the gift was from my mother, who is on a fixed income (yet insisted on buying the camera for me). I really feel badly for her. As a result, I've decided to give her half the cost. Don't do business with 24hourdigital!!!
