Palace Camera (aka palacecamera.com): Beware?

Be careful ordering from palacecamera.com.  There are several red flags about their website.
If you put the following language in Google (from the Palace Camera’s website):

"average online retailer. Among the earliest to sell consumer electronics online. Our goal has been to earn the trust of our customers"
The only results that you get are for Delta Camera, Save Here Digital, and two posts of mine about Big Camera Deals. Out of the hundreds of millions of webpages that Google catalogues, these are the only results.  Sonic Cameras used the exact language as well.
From their “about us” page:
Company:
Palace Camera
Address: Fort Washington, PA 19034
US
Email:
info@PalaceCamera.com
CALL US
1-888-268-2505
Their volusion certificate also fails to provide a physical address, listing only Fort Washington PA. The phone number provided is 267-338-1440.
I tested their shopping cart and they don’t charge tax in Pennsylvania, only New York.

I was just about to buy a camera from this site when I saw your post. Does anyone have any feedback about this company? Want to make sure I'll get what I'm expecting.

I placed order from them on Nov 29 for an item showed as Ships in 24 to 48 hours.

Once I ordered got an email to call their number to 'verify my order'. Called number, verified order, and now item shows Backordered.
I smell a fish and am doing everything possible to Cancel the order. I would pay more for item elsehwere than take a chance on the lies posted on their site.
Attempted to contact them a few times via email about order but NO RESPONSE. DO NOT ORDER FROM THESE PEOPLE!!!

I will be ordering from Newegg or someone else. Should have been more aware.

There are no results for 'Palace Camera' within Fort Washington, PA 19034 on bbb.org
I got an opinion that this company is fishy because they did not write their full physical address.

I found data about Palace Camera because i wanted to buy a camera from them. This is very strange that they posted their physical address at Fort Washington, PA.
because they are NOT located at Fort Washington, PA.

Here is their physical address:
Company: PalaceCamera
Address: 1708 e. 2nd street
Brooklyn, New York 11223
US
Telephone: 646-785-1444
Email: info@PalaceCamera.com

Their phone number is unpublished.
Phone code is 646 but other companies have phone code 718 at the same address at Brooklyn, NY.

I would highly recommend not buying from Palace Camera either. I saw a good deal online for a Canon SD1400 through Nextag for the Palace Camera site. So, I order it and I get an email telling me to call and confirm my order. I call the next day and the guy confirms my order from me and THEN asks if I'd like a battery to go with that. I say no thanks, the battery that comes with it will be enough. And he says, "Well, no battery comes with this, you have to purchase it" So I ask him how much the battery is and why it wouldn't come with one. He tells me it's an extra $40 and then has the audacity to ask me in a derisive tone of voice WHY I would just assume it comes with a battery

So I tell him, "Hmm..I dunno, maybe because every single Canon I've bought in my life comes with one, and the only way a battery wouldn't be in a brand new factory sealed digital camera box is if someone took it out". He just kinda mumbled something, and I said screw it, I just want to cancel this, and he obliged me

I mean seriously, what was he going to try to sell me next that the camera didn't 'come with', the flash?

DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY. THE ARAB ON THE PHONE IS AN A-HOLE AND EVERYTHING IS EXTRA MONEY!! IF YOU WANT YOUR SOFTWARE IN ENGLISH IT IS AN EXTRA $200.00. YOU WANT A BATTERY, $90.00 DOLLARS. NOT TO MENTION THE BATTERIES ARE LIKE $20.00 ANYWHERE ELSE. THIS PLACE IS A RIP-OFF!!!!

I just found out that I am gonna be scammed and am super mad at myself for falling for this crap...I called my credit card company and I can only file a dispute if it doesn't show, which I am sure it won't. I never even received my email confirmation even though they gave me a #. I tried to look it up on my account from them and it doesn't exist.
What did you guys end up doing????
Please help!!!!

Went to Checkout and its looks strangely similar to DigitalElect.com checkout screen. Suspect theyre the same bunch with two different store names. Both seem to be from Brooklyn. Beware.

Ordered a Canon D10 in late January as advertised for $219. Got an order number but no shipping verification. I called them and they needed my credit card pin number to ship the camera. I waited four days for a shipment verification, nothing. I called again, they said it was backordered. I cancelled the order and told the 'guy' I will leave a post with the BBB.

I'm not using NexTag for anything in the future.

The old "Call us to verify your order" schtick is sooo played out. I'm really glad you run this blog Dave. It's quite a resource.

I bought a camera from these guys over a month ago....they called me, tried to "UPGRADE" me for $100( they said no batteries or charger included with the factory camera)...I did not go for that...I DID NOT get anything from them yet...they sent me an order #----but the email does NOT say WHAT ITEM I ordered---or what the PRICE is.....I called...they say it is backordered...even thought their website still says it is in stock....and the price was dropped even lower...and then raised higher....why are they changing prices for things they don't even have in stock......?????

Crooks!!!! I did not know about this places reputation. I ordered a camera from them. Great looking kit, for an amazing price. Got an email from them telling me I needed to contact them about my order. I called and they said I did not put my verification code from the back of my credit card on my order. Their website did not have a place to put that number, nor was it even asked for. I gave the number to the person on the phone. He then pointed out I did not buy a battery for the camera. He offered a battery and then charger for a great price. Then started all the "You know what? I am going to upgrade you to...." and at no time did he ever say an amount or mention an amount for any of those upgrades. When he was finished with his fast talking multiple upgrades, he never gave me a total amount. I was left thinking I had gotten a camera battery and charger for $169. I never got the promised email of the new total; going from the $400 for the camera kit to the added $169 added to the $400. The camera and kit arrived today, with an invoice of $728.00. I immediately called and it is a nightmare! They said they told me the upgrades were extra, each and everyone (no they did not!), and that they told me the total amount for everything at the end of our 'conversation'. I told them they did not. They guy insisted it is company policy. He did NOT tell me. I also told him the promised email with the new amount never arrived, he said that was a mistake and all places make mistakes. I told him I wanted to return everything and he said it will cost me 15% to do so. I told him I was going to file complaints with BBB and file with our states attorney general and he said 'go ahead' and laughed and said 'good luck with that!'.

Thanks to all! I was about 10 minutes from going ahead with a purchase - not anymore!

I just canceled my order that I made earlier this morning. I called "to confirm" my order as requested in their e-mail. They told me the camera was not available in the color that I wanted but I could get it in another. I asked if it was the same price, and at first he said "yes", but then he said no it was 10 dollars more. I at first said OK, but that I didn't need anything else. He said that he didn't offer me anything else, very defensively. I then decided that this was not the deal for me so I canceled it. I thanked him, and he basically said my order was canceled and hung up the phone in my ear. I called the credit card co to make sure it didn't go through. It was definitely a deal too good to be true.

No kidding...I was just going to complete my order. My cart actually still has stuff in it. Thanks so much for this site. Gotta go delete my cart now.

Similar comments from me. They said they gave me an awesome deal on upgrade with best battery and super fast memory card, etc. Final price was double the camera price.. Found battery charger on Amazon for $10 and card for $12. I still haven't recieved the memory card reader even though they say they have mailed me 3 of them. This place is a rip off...and they treat u like a idiot

Here is more information about my mess with them. I had not removed anything from the box they shipped my stuff in, except for the invoice. The stuff arrived Tuesday, Feb. 8 and I wrote one of the warnings on here about the place. Today is the first time I took *anything* out of the box. Guess what; several items were not in the box. My original order was for the camera and it came with a Canon 18-55 mm IS Lens, a second lens - Professional .45 X Wide Angle Lens, and 16 piece kit, all for $400. Well, no wide angle lens is anywhere to be found in the box of stuff they shipped. As for infamous battery that you have to buy; the salesman first was going to sell me one battery with charger for $143, but said he was upgrading it to two batteries and quick charge charger instead for $169. There is no second battery nor is there a quick charge charger in with the stuff they sent. As for the rest of the so called 'upgrades' he said he was going to give me (with no prices ever mentioned on those upgrades): I only found the 4GB card instead of the 2GB that was to come with the 16 piece kit. And that 16 piece kit that came with original $400 order? The mini tripod is tiny. That little tripd and the lens care kit is in a small box (the entire box is maybe 3 x 4 inches)and has a cloth, small bottle of lens cleaner and 4 or 5 cotton swabs (other wise known as Q-tips), and those cotton swabs count as part of the 16 pieces. To recap, not only did I get screwed on the amount they charged me, but they also did not even send me several of the items!!!! This just gets worse and worse. DO NOT BUY FROM PALACE CAMERA!

Darn I wish I would have seen this site before I spent 1300.00 dollars with this company! I ordered on Mon. never received a email confirmation. The guy changed his name the last couple of times I called. It went from greg to ron. It sounds like the same guy. He is Fast talker. Tries to get you to upgrade with batteries and memory cards. I have a bad feeling about this company. Everytime I call he looks up my order and then tells me " What! I can't believe he gave you all this for that price" So you can feel like you got a good deal. Damn I wish I could fly to New York and kick his ass!

Wow, thanks for all of the information from everyone. My wife suggested, from an article she read, that I investigate the "Palace" through the BBB, and found these comments. Just like everyone else, there were Red Flags, i.e. $80.00 cheaper than anyother company (WalMart, Best Buy, etc.), and after reviewing what the "order" included - there was NO battery, also the hours that they were open for customer service, and placing an order were odd - Friday afternoon after 2:00pm they were closed?? Anyways I won't place an order with them, and will shop only through KNOWN and reputable companies. BEWARE.

Anonymous said...

I was very thankful to find this article. Like everyone else i had placed an order with them March 10th and jumped through there "Payment verification" hoops like everyone else. This company is a scam. What they try to do is get you hooked with the best price on the camera and try to make you pay a ridiculous amount for the battery, charger, and memory cards to make up the difference. If you elect to decline those items your order will just go on backorder and never ship. They do this because if you do not buy the other items they lose money. Terrible customer service and when i cancelled my order and asked for a confirmation email to make sure it was cancelled he just told me that it would be there by 7pm. Funny how they are closed at 7pm and of course i did not recieve that email. When i tried to email them/him i got no response. I hope that someone will have the knowledge/resources to stop this crook and teach him a lesson. fyi i believe it is a one man show because its always the same person you talk to when you call.

This place is a scam - do not even think about ordering from them. They want extra money for everything from over priced batteries (which always come from with the camera unless the batteries are stolen out of the box) and they wanted $200 more for english software. They send emails out asking you to confirm the order and when you call they have to put you through numerous extensions and treat you like crap.

Anonymous said...

Thank you so much for all this information. I ordered a camera yesterday and got that email to call them to confirm my order and they were closed when I called. Then I checked on here and thank you so much. I just went in and cancelled my order. I really appreciate all your comments. Something like this happened in 2007 and I forgot all about it until I received that email.
I wonder if the people on here that are still waiting, can still cancel their orders just by going to their site and cancelling it, like I did. Good luck to all. Now where to find a reputable place to buy the camera??

I'd urge other buyers to beware as well. Here's my story: I placed an order with them on April 3rd. On April 4th they called to verify the number on the back of my card. I ordered it on a Sunday when Palace advertised "upgraded express shipping" which is apparently on their site 24/7 so I was expecting to have my camera within a week. After a week I received no camera and hadn't gotten a single email from them besides the initial confirmation for the order being placed. I called them to figure out what was going on and they told me that the Canon SD1400 I ordered is out of stock and that it will be SIX WEEKS before it ships. They also told me that the free "upgraded express shipping" is actually UPS ground. I'm going to call and cancel my order tomorrow. Apparently they're closed for passover. Nevertheless, I'm going to keep my eyes on my credit card statement and make sure no odd charges appear after giving them the card verification number. BBB here I come...

Uggghhh - I just got off the phone with these idiots. I ordered a Canon SX20IS last week and when I finally called to "verify my order" they told me that the camera was discontinued and the replacement was a Nikon P100. They would give me the whole package for the Nikon for $365. I told them I needed to research the Nikon as I was not sure that was the right camera for me. After researching more, I settled instead on the Canon SX30IS, which was showing in stock for almost as good of a price as the SX20. I called to tell them I would like to order the SX30, and they asked if I would like to order a battery pack for $89 and that they were very hard to find in stores. I'm thinking "what the heck"???? So I started researching battery packs on the internet and found one that was about $8.00.

On Saturday, I placed my online order for just the camera and no battery. I just called back today to verify the new order for the SX30, and after being on hold for nearly 30 minutes, the guy asks why I am not buying the battery pack from them. I told him I had found it for much less on another website and would order it when I needed it. That is when his whole demeanor changed. He asked if I realized I was purchasing an imported camera (I'm thinking "aren't they all????") and that it was not a US model, it was an import, and that furthermore, I would not be able to find the batteries to fit it here. He then had the audacity to tell me I was not listening to him, and I told him he was not listening to ME. By this point, he had me agitated and frustrated enough that I told him to just cancel the whole order. He did and snidely said, "why do you think this cost so much less from us than a camera store? Your order is canceled". CLICK. He hung up in my ear. It was not until this little exchange happened that I came back to the computer to do more research on the company! Thanks for this blog!! I'm ordering from Amazon, even though it is quite a bit higher.

I ordered a camera from them about two month ago for my daughter's sixteenth birthday. A few days after, I called and verified. They told me it would be 3-5 days. A week went past, no camera. I called, they said it would be another 3-5 days. Another week, no camera. I called, they told me it was on backorder and it would be 3 weeks. 3 and a half weeks went by and no camera. I called and they said ANOTHER 2 weeks. I just canceled. When I questioned the man on the phone as to why they didn't mark the product as "sold out", he was very rude, gave much attitude, and only talked back.

NEVER ORDER FROM THIS COMPANY!

Anonymous said...

When I called the number listed at Palacecamera.com to ask their listed camera canon EOS 60D a man answered phone. He simply said we sold the camera. Since the camera was listed as body only and as body with a lens, I tried to ask him if the later one is still available because it was still listed on the website. He did not sound nice at the first place and became shockingly rude when hearing my question. He yield with "how many times I have to tell you the camera is sold out out". When I pointed it out he was being rude, he kept screaming like "I have told you 2 million times the camera is sold out". He also said NO when I asked to be transferred me to a different customer service person. So I had to hang up to dial the number then choose the operator option. Guess what, got hang up immediately when the line was connected. I tried the third time to the online sales assistance option, he answered the call again and admitted with joy that he hanged up on me. This must be a one person business with that one person with apparently physiologically issues. When I searched the internet after this stunning experience, I found out pure negative feedback and warnings about this merchant. I am happy now that I did not purchase the camera from him because who knows what I am going to receive from this place.

Anonymous said...

Thank you for all of your experiences and feedback. I was just getting ready to purchase a Canon 60D body only. Looks like it would have been the biggest headache ever and I would not have received the camera. Thankfully I found these reviews and I will not be purchasing from palacecamera.com.

JUN 13,2011
11PM

After days of researching for a digital camera upgrade, I decided to purchase a Canon SX30IS because it has a 14MP, 36Xzoom, and other attractive features. I went to a local camera shop and there price was $429 + tax. I found PalaceCamera's website and found the identical camera for $299. I thought wow!! what a deal, compared to $429.

The SX30IS is supposed to include in the box the following: Camera, Lithium-ion battery pack, Battery Charger, neck strap, lens cap, A/V cable, USB cable, and Digital Camera Cd-ROM. I was going to call these people tomorrow and place an order. I asked a friend about PalaceCamera and he gave a stern warning Alert and gave me this website for reference. After reading the various comments on this web site, I WILL NOT BE ordering from these imposters and unethical crooks. I sensed that something was amiss intially, and it turned out today the 13th was my lucky day, indeed. Buying a camera from these people is like buying a car and having to pay for all of the parts seperatly.

Many, many thanks for all the critical comments that have been posted.

Your order # is ?????, please call us to confirm your order. We can be reached at 888-268-2505. Please remember to dial extension 306 for the billing department.
They said they needed the 3 digit security code off my credit card to complete the order, I gave it to him, thought that was it, and then he tried to sell me a battery (said they were hard to find). I when on line and found the complaints against them and I closed my credit card account before they it was charged. BEWARE of this site.

Just like all the rest, I was about to buy a Nikon D7000. Price was to good to be true. When I called their 800 number to ask questions, the guy on the phone was a real jerk. I didn't even get to the part of ordering. I somehow got onto this blog through google, and I'm glad. It was a pretty big investment, and I feel sorry for those honest people who tried to get a good deal. I guess I'm gonna have to suck it up a little and go to a more reputable dealer. Any recommendations?

ABSOLUTELY DO NOT ORDER FROM PALACE CAMERA

It has been said before but their prices are "too good to be true"

I tried to order a Nikon D3000 from them a few weeks ago, and called to "confirm my order" when the guy on the phone informed me to buy a battery, I said no... Then he asked if I would like to get the the English version instead of the Chinese/Japanese software, which would be another $180... Needless to say I asked to cancel my order, that is when his mood changed... " Why do you think this price is so low?" was his remark. After arguing with this guy for a few minutes he finally stated in an annoyed tone " your order has been cancelled" click. I immediately called up my bank and had all charges on the card to be held from these people.

I now have my camera that I ordered used from eBay for even a better deal than what this jerk had. I hope my story helps anyone else looking to get a camera, my advice is to be patient and look for a trustworthy dealer.

Tried to buy a Canon 7d from these guys for $1200, and at first was told it came with no firmware, and had a plastic case instead of the magnesium one. Called Canon, and was told that all cameras whether gray market, or US market are shipped with firmware, and the 7d is not built of plastic. Called Palace back more than once trying to get a straight answer, and kept getting the run around. Talked to a guy named David each time. So I decide "what the hell", and placed the order online. Got an email immediately asking me to call to confirm the order. Was transferred to David again, and he told me they had to use a special machine to install the firmware. That would cost $600. I asked David if he would say that on a conference call with Canon, and he vehemently refused. The conversation devolved from there with him claiming if I bought the camera at the price quoted it would not work, and threatening to ban me from buying this camera at anyplace that offered it at a similar price. I threatened to contact the NY States Atty. At that point he was yelling, and said he cancelled my order These guys are advertizing nailed down items that they will never deliver. They will just try to up sell you,

Stay Away

After reading the posts left... certainly something "not quite right" as we say in the South. I wish I had seen this website before I placed an order from the Palacecamera.com. This is what happened to me. Dec 2010, I ordered a camera online, had stock and two days later they called me said it was out of stock and will receive new shippment after Christmas. Ok, I waited till first week of Jan and still backordered. So, I waited some more (I was not really in a hurry for it), by Jan 18, I decided it's doesn't feel right and decided to call to cancelled the order. Ok, they cancelled but charged my credit card. So I called back in Feb. because it showed up on my Feb statement, so they told me that someone forgot to process it and wait for the next statement. Came March statement, no credit, so i called them again, they told me that there was a problem with my account and they couldnt credit back to my account, so they will mail me a check. Like a dumb ass, i waited till april and no check in the mail. So, I called my credit card company and then I could get my money back, because I suppose to dispute the charge within 90 days of the purchase. So, basically I got doped. I tried calling palace camera again, and the person I spoke to the previous times claims he doesn't remember me and said that they can't pull anything that far back in their computer. I lost $200 for nothing. So, Please do not order from this company, they are bunch of scammers.

THIS IS EXCERPT FROM NY TIMES PUBLISHED IN SEPT. 29, 1998: Agency Says Two Computer Stores Cheated Customers..Two electronics stores in New York City have repeatedly bilked customers by passing off used computers as new ones, misrepresenting products in advertising and sales pitches and attracting customers through bait-and-switch tactics, the Department of Consumer Affairs said yesterday. The larger of the two stores, Palace Camera, at 1525 Coney Island Avenue between Avenues K and L in the Midwood section, was fined $65,000 in 1994 for violating city consumer protection laws. But the department said that it had received more than 50 complaints since April 1997 from customers accusing the store of deceptive trade practices. THIS IS THE PROOF FELLAS. This guy has been doing this for a long time! Don't be fooled by that rude guy!

Bought from them last year. Recieved wrong camera, told the guy that if not there by friday i dident want it, told correct one would be in my hands by friday as i was going on vacation, thursday arrived and no camera. went on vacation and was on door step a little soggy a week and half later. In pacakage was camera but no strap it was supposed to come with box was sealed with imprint of olympus on it appearing factory like and was supposed to be new. Found pictures of a camera store in the internal storage of it and what looks like people taking pictures of themselvs trying it out. THEY SENT ME A DISPLAY MODEL. Called and requested strap and was told it was on the way 11 months later, no strap, it gets worse the camera wont recognise the sd card called and was told olympus will not warranty past six months which was not true. Its a year. So much for knowledge staff. That they could not provide a copy of sales reciept only maybe after the holidays cause too long ago thats a brush off, even when provided with their invoice number and shipping tracking number, what computers are they using? The guy said he knows nothing and cant do nothing, thats the first believeble statement i got from them. Olympus fixed camera I feel very fortunate and definately would stay away from them.
