Per this article last month, GE Commercial Financing sued Sixth Avenue Electronics last month after they defaulted on payments totaling $9.6 million.
Per the article: "As a result, the financing company is entitled to seize about $5.5 million worth of inventory at 18 of the chain’s retail and storage locations, most of them in New Jersey. In all, the complaint lists 27 pages of inventory for seizure, including home theater systems, digital cameras, plasma televisions, refrigerators and dishwashers."
On April 1st, GE reached a settlement with Sixth Avenue Electronics (Link), after they closed several stores. In addition, they are being sued by the publisher of several newspapers for $532,000.
There are now reports that Sixth Avenue Electronics has been acquired by Broadway Photo.
Perfect 0/10 rating on resellerratings.com
Article about the State of Texas suing Broadway Photo.
Another lawsuit by the State of Texas
Detailed information.
6ave.com had very positive ratings on both the BBB and resellerratings.com websites. If the rumors are true that it has been acquired by Albert Houllou and the rest of the clan at Broadway photo, then I highly suggest that you read the reviews about Broadway Photo to see what kind of experience you can expect to have.

Mike temiz and BILLY TEMIZ ARE CON ARTISTS AND ITS A GOOD MARRIAGE WITH ALBERT HOULLOU WHO WILL CON WHO FIRST ?
I currently work for Sixth Ave Electronics in Nesconset, NY. This is 100% true. Albert Houllou came into our store a week ago and our managers informed us that he was "one of our new owners."
Sixth Ave has now closed two more locations (Commack, NY and Brick Township, NJ) and are likely going to close more locations in the future. This came after a Long Island store meeting where VP Tom Galanis informed all of us that no more stores will be closed and that we "beat the banks." Two weeks later they close one of the Long Island stores in Commack.
All of this is true. They will be done to 4 stores at one point. So many bad comments posted about 6TH Ave even when some tries to write something nice everyone comments what bad people they are. Kepp up with Twice Magazine. http://www.twice.com/blog/Executive_Insight/32448-Putting_Sixth_Ave_In_Perspective.php
You people are too funny!!! 100% NOT TRUE!!!! Yes they sold off part of the company but not to Albert Houllou directly.
If you know anything about electronics you know that EVERYONE works with EVERYONE, and trust me Albert Houllou (with a company that has such bad reviews) does not have the millions to buy up part of 6ave.
LOL - 100 bucks says 6th Ave is
G O N E after Christmas...
I purchased speakers, an amplifier and the speaker box in early July 2011 however, when I made the purchase they didn't have any more speaker boxes in stock. I was advised that they would order the box and contact me when it arrives in the store (scheduled for a few days). After a couple of weeks and several phone calls/trips back to the store I was advised they received the wrong size box and they were reordering the correct size and that the salesperson would contact me when it gets to the store. Unfortunately another week goes by and I didn't hear anything so I made another trip back to the store to demand either the correct box that was advertised with my speakers/amp and/or a discount on a better one. However, I was shocked to get there and the store was permanently closed- without warning. What type of business is that?? I will be contacting customer service for some "actual" customer service this time around before all of their locations mysteriously close out and go out of business. Buyer beware!!!!!
Broadway photo or Broadway family of companies or whatever you want to call these guys, are the new owners of Sixth Ave Electronics. I don't know if Albert Houllou paid for it personally or bought it using one of his dozens companies (did you see how many names they have on ResellerRatings?), but Sixth Ave is a Broadway Photo owned company. They are here for sure. We saw him and I also heard people here mention it.
Sixth Ave Electronics is a loosing business with zero attraction for honest investors, but for Broadway photo it is a gold mine. As Dave wrote, Sixth Ave has an extremely good feedback - the exact opposite of Broadway Photo - so Broadway Photo can try and hide under this feedback and continue their unethical practices for a long time.
BEWARE!
The TEMIZ clan are a bunch of criminals. This also includes LEON TEMIZ and his low life partner-in-crime Rich Yanitelli at ELECTRONICS EXPO. As a former employee, their business practices are shameful to say the least. Let's remember that they got their start by pawning off refurbished and grey market goods as "new".
They should all be run out of town. No wonder they were thrown out of Turkey!!
My grand daughter told me about the sale of the HP Touchpad 32 at 6th Avenue Electronics in Springfield, NJ. I got up at 3 am drove over an hour to be about 40th in line. The add said they had 150 units so I thought I was going to get one even if they were split amongst the 3 area stores advertised.
Just before opening at 7am an employee informs us there are only 20 units available......I believe that is a form of "bait and switch". Another fine job of fooling the public about getting a much needed deal in this horrible economy. Thank you Sixth Avenue Electronics!!
I USED TO WORK FOR 6 AVE RIGHT BEFORE THEY CLOSED THIER DOORS AND I ASURE YOU THAT EVERYTHING YOU PURCHASED IN THE LAST YEAR OR SO WAS ALL REFURBISHED. AS THE STORES CLOSED ONE BY ONE IN LONG ISLAND THEY SHIPPED ALL OF THIER MERCHANDISE TO THE OPENED STORES AND REPACKED EVERYTHING.EVERY MORNING THEY HELD A MEETING TRAINING US HOW TO CON THE CUSTOMERS AND BAIT AND SWITCH THEM BASICALLY WHAT IM GETTING AT IS THAT THIS IS ALL KARMA FOR THEM...
I’ve learned a lot from your blog here, Keep on going, my friend, I will keep an eye on it,
I purchase a "NEW" Panasonic TV online. They shipped an open box, slightly damaged TV with no stand. When I called to report what had happened to Customer Service, their phone message said "closed today". The next day I call again and the message said "closed today and tomorrow". This was on a Thursday and Friday morning. No response to email inquiry either. I would beware of purchasing from 6th Ave, or who ever they are now.

There were both good and bad people in my experience working for this company. (I wasn't there toward the end for the LI stores, left two years ago.) First off, the entire modus operandi of the sales staff on the floor was exactly what your blog is crusading against: bait-and-swtich tactics. Settings on the "loss-leader" sets were messed with to give them an "off" looking picture. Half the sales staff, especially the "senior" ones, would mix up facts and figures constantly, hoping the consumer was none the wiser. Futhermore, one of these "senior sales staff" - a real greaseball of an imbicile, would mark up acccessories and smaller items in the computer if he felt the customer was a chump, or "depo" as they liked to call them. I remember once having to deal with an angry customer who rightfully came back to complain, and this person was on break. Apparently I was the one being "out of line" for trying to fix the customer's receipt, and strip my co-worker of his cheated commissions.
Also, when I started off - my store had two/three pretty good managers. In this retail environment, they were generally there to handle consumer complaints, and did their best. Also they were curteous to the employees, and had worked with me to create a good weekly schedule which allowed me a bit of overtime, but not too much. All the sudden they're getting... transferred, fired, or perhaps quit on their own, and Turkish/Armenian/whatever salespeople start getting promoted to manager despite an inadequate command of the English language, mannerisms that make them adversarial to the local clientele, and most importantly of all - absolutely no managerial experience. I guess the Temiz brothers enjoyed keeping managers they could squabble to in their home tongue, and felt like the most ruthless salesperson on the floor should be the best in management. Within a couple weeks of a certain pompous Turk being promoted to manager, one of our top guys got fired for calling out his complete incompetence. He was immediately on my ass about my unique scheduling situation - one in place because I have a disabled relative I must take to physical therapy twice a week - and called it "bulls**t" in his high-pitched accent. After that I knew my two years there or so were going to be coming to a close. This person alienated customers left and right too, even driving a few into a publicly embarrassing yelling tantrum about once a week. He even drove a deaf man to start yelling at him due to a mix-up with a projector he had placed on order. This pompous tool treated the customers like dirt - is it any surprise then that sales decline? Guess they don't grasp simple concepts like the power of negative word-of-mouth.
I can't tell you what amount of the goods were refurbished or grey market... certainly some were suspect to me, like this Pioneer home theater speaker set that was going for well, a "too good to be true" price, and customers brought them back as quick as they left the floor. I own a few Pioneer products, and genuine ones are well, *better* than that. We had a whole list of products we dubbed "boomerangs" for this very reason. I'm sure this wasn't a unique phenomena to 6ave, but I certainly found it odd. Oh well, I certainly feel bad for all the lower-level employees and *GOOD* managers they had there that got the axe without any real warning. Wasn't the best company to work for, but it was certainly better than no work at all.
Looks like ALL the 6th Ave stores are closed...Woodbridge...Paramus...and the main store Springfield....I feel bad for the people who purchase defective items and need to return them...I am out a few hundred myself...There is no-where to go...
bunch of cheat want to cheat now through their website only. they intentionally closed the stores to drink their vendors money. owners are big time cheat criminals money laundreres. there should be investigation for the owners....they were utmost disrespectful people and simply wanted to drink others money
I'm another customer who has bought a 60in. flat screen with a warranty, looks like that $150.00 warranty was a bunch of bull sh*t.. I hate being riped off, and yes KARMA WILL GET THEM ! Now i'm outta $1,200 ?!? Who can I go to now for help? I'm getting no responce to any call ! The message says "we are not open today or tomorrow" WTF I hope that this company gets back ten fold to what they did to there customers & employee's B*STARDS
I worked for 6 ave in 2001 and the posts about bait and switch are true. They taught us, how to bait.and switch customers to, product they can't afford.
