Thedigitalhunter.com aka The Digital Hunter: WARNING - FRAUD ALERT

A new sponsored link showing up on Google Adwords is thedigitalhunter.com.  The URL was created in December 2010.  At the bottom of their homepage they list numerous affiliations, including authorize.net, BBB, verified by Visa, etc.  None of the links work.  Not a good sign.  The site is sloppily put together, with portions taken verbatim from getitdigital.com and numerous typos.  Their phone number area code is based in Florida, but good luck trying to figure out where they are located from their site.  Stay tuned for updates.
Update:  They list a Nikon D90 for $629 on Bing.  Used ones go for more.  You will not get this camera for this price, period.  Get ready for the upsell if you try to buy one from these clowns.
UPDATE 9/2/2011:  Check out the reviews on resellerratings.  Many of the positive ones look fake.  They advertise a Nikon D90 with lens for $429.  Bullshit.  Avoid these guys.
UPDATE:  Thedigitalhunter.com is the latest incarnation of thundercameras.com, an infamous bait and switch website.  Read the reviews of how these guys operate here.
The operators of thedigitalhunter.com have posted FAKE reviews an inducement to their fraud.  Don Lapre was facing 20 years in prison for doing similar shenanigans.  As you can see below, thedigitalhunter.com has the exact same testimonial as one on their previous scam website thundercameras.com; they've simply replaced thundercameras with thedigitalhunter:

Update: If you are fighting with Bank of America over false charges from thedigitalhunter.com, here's proof that B of A is aware of problems (different visits on different days):

Did you use a Capital One credit card when buying from these criminals?  Capital One is aware of problems:

I was gonna buy a t2i from this website but I can't find anything on them when I do a google search. Bad sign huh?

You saved my a$$. They got my contact info but I paused and found your sight before I entered the payment info. Thanks and keep putting these scammers in check.

I sent an e-mail asking for info to be sure they were a company, they called me, the voice of the sales rep is the same as the voice when the phone picks up to give you choices. I got customer service, was told the compant had been in business as a wholesaler for 15 years and was new to on-line retail. Was put through to a manager who agreed to e-mail me information about the company so I could check with BBB, see if they were a corporation with the FL secretary of state's office. No e-mail yet. Why would anyone sell a Canon EOS REbel T2i for $619 with a lens? No address either. I found them on Nextag. One review from 5/23/11. If there is not even a PO box...what does that tell you?

Buyer Be Ware!! At The Digital Hunter I just got scammed & found your post a day too late :( they "Ben" promised in my package/kit 1. USA Model D700 & there's no Nikon manufactures warranty in the box plus it looked opened already.2. power battery grip was a generic Zeikos not Nikon brand. 3. lens was supposed to be latest version of Sigmas 12-24 4.5 & it's not because it's missing the telltale "II" in it's title.
SIGMA 12-24mm f/4.5-5.6 EX Aspherical SLD DG II HSM Autofocus Lens
3. other stuff was as it was stated just the usual extras that come in a package deal, compact flash card, card reader, tripod and camera case etc.
Called Chase Visa my card to file a dispute as it was already charged and delivered, but still puts my line of credit down $3551 ~Dismayed

Yup, prices are just way too low to be real... I think I just dodged a bullet too!

If it's to good to be true it's a scam! I called and ask if they charged tax and the rug head ask if I lived in NY, no and he told me then no tax. I ask if free shipping he told me they charge $50.00 for each shipment. Oh and the USA models cost more??? So when did USA start making Nikon?

STAY AWAY FROM THESE GUYS.
THEY WILL TRY AND FLIP YOU INTO PACKAGES THAT ARE FINAL SALE AND NOT RETURNABLE, EVEN THOUGH THEY SAY THEY HAVE A 60 DAY SATISFACTION GUARANTEE.

THEY WANT YOU TO PHONE THEM, THEN THEY CAN UPGRADE YOU INTO PACKAGES THAT ARE CRAP.

thanks for posting this before i made a purchase from them. i guess i kinda knew it was too good to be true.

Beware of this one!!

The domain is privately registered (read: no identity information on the registration record) so someone is deliberately hiding who they are here (see the WHOIS record below).

Legit companies always have legit contact information on their domain's WHOIS record, and the presence of a private registration (or fake information) for a commercial domain is a very big red flag to stay away.

Versa Deals also has a private reg, (maybe these are the same guys?) and their reviews are stunningly atrocious.

I'd stay away for sure.

I wish I saw this post earlier. I placed an order. Received an email to call them. Once I called them I was told the t2i would not come in for about 6-8 weeks from Japan. Then try to sell me a US version? For $899?? Bait and switch. Don't do it. Now I am like worried about all the information I sent them (CC, etc.)

I will give them credit for canceling my order and charging nothing. No scam on payment, but not saying anything about product delivery.

Thanks to review on this forum, on http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1034&message=38845076&refresh=882(along with my instincts that something felt WRONG here which made me dig around for reviews in the first place) I cancelled my order just in time. I made sure to call my credit card company to confirm the cancellation as well. Here was MY experience today (and yesterday):

1. AJ Richard magically charged an extra $29 (or so) above and beyond the price it was going to be when I made my purchase online and was about to click on "confirm order". I only called in because I was not being offered the warantee promo that was clearly advertised on the site. Extra cost was for handling charges??? What? Why would I have to pay extra if I call, but not if I charge online? hmmmm

2. It took 2 calls extra just to receive an email receipt of my order. (no hyperlink to show what "stage of the process" my order was in. That felt strange/unprofessional. I was gruffly told that I'd get a confirmation by last night-never happened.

3. The RUDE guy told me that my order could not be cancelled because it was on the UPS truck already (5 minutes earlier in my last call it hadn't left, but it was supposed to be on a truck YESTERDAY. I call "BS".)

4. The nicer man did cancel my order just 5 minutes after RUDE DUDE said it was impossible to do so because my order was already on the truck. I thanked him at least for not giving me a hard time for cancelling)

5. I asked for a confirmation email of the cancellation of my order, was told "yes" and never did receive that. The order was indeed cancelled, luckily.

6. No matter which line you press, mostly it seems to be one guy... Rarely does anybody else answer. That also seemed fishy to me.

7. Yesterday I called during business hours and nobody answered. Voice mail said to call back during regular business hours. # I used was 1-888-871-1256.

This taught me a HUGE lesson to research even more thoroughly than I thought I already was. I'm so grateful for the feedback here. This could have been so much worse.

bottom line: DO NOT EVER DO BUSINESS WITH AJ RICHARD. THERE IS SOMETHING SHADY GOING ON THERE. (AND VERY RUDE)

add-on to my earlier review: I attempted to place this same review on www.resellerratings.com, but in order to do so users must type in their invoice# and purchase date. I did not feel comfortable placing my review on that website since AJ Richards is tracking (and contacting) customers who place negative reviews about them. I think that review system is less than fair, and is very skewed. In addition, most of the review that I read were positive. Only a couple negative reviews remain. Just FYI for using that site as your source for "FAIR" and "UNBIASED" reviews. I will not be utilizing them to make any future decisions on where I will shop.

I saw that they were selling the 24-105mm f4L for $ 683, and they had good ratings on Nextag, and that they had a 60 day return policy advertised. So I thought I would give it a shot. I know that sometimes this particular lens can be pretty cheap if the reseller has purchased an import model of the 5DII kit and is selling the parts separately, and I have no issues with Grey market. So I call them to place the order, and I start with just asking for the 24-105, Canon. I did not give a part number from the website or specify the price... After all the information has been taken down, the guy tells me if I need a filter. I said I didn't right now, but that I am planning to purchase a 100-400mm soon and I shall get filters at that time. He says, but that is an 82mm filter, and after arguing for a while, agrees that it is 77mm after all.
Then he asks me what camera I have- wondering what he will try to sell this time, I answer 50D. So he says, why are you buying the wrong lens? Surprised, I ask do you mean I should go for a wider focal length? He says, no, you are buying the lens made for 35mm cameras, with a plastic mount. You need the one made for digital cameras, with metal mount. He then goes on for a while about how he has been doing this for 20 years and he knows that Canon makes two versions of this lens, and how I will just end up purchasing the wrong product and sending it back and paying the 15% restocking fee. At that point, I realized that he was not making any sense and I just cut my losses (only time wasted fortunately at this point, not money) and cancelled the order. And he said 'ok. bye, bye' in a curt manner and hung up. All in all an amusing experience in fraudulent dealings.

My friend asked me to help him get this $1,200 Dlls. professional camera and he gave me this site as his lower price store, but since we are in Mexico I needed to speak with a sales rep. in order to clarify shipping costs, so when we got the recording and it said pres 1 for sales and after pressing 1 you got the same message over and over, I felt some thing was not right, the other thing that tipped me off was the recording said for tracking information send an email, that is weird isn't it?

We looked over in google for "the digital hunter" and this site was the second result, after reading a couple of comments we were convinced this was not a good way to go.

Thank you for your comments you saved us a lot of money and troubles.

Thank you for posting these comments and unveiling scammers. I wish I read your blog before I got scammed by these people at the Digital Hunter:

I had a terrible experience. After placing an order for a Nikon D5100 body only, a person called me claiming that it was in Japanese only that I had to take the USA model, that I had to buy the battery and charger on top of the body and that was true if I bought it anywhere, even at B&H, Bestbuy or any other reputable store. I had to agree because I'd have no use of a body in Japanese. After 15 minutes this gave me such a bad feeling that I called back to cancel. They said yes, but call in 30 minutes because the person who takes the cancellations is in a meeting. ha ha. When I get the person 30 minutes later (over 1 hr after sending my order via the internet) he says, there is no way you can cancel, your order has been processed and we'll charge you fees if you do so. That Night I called my credit card company who said that they could see the charge but couldn't place a dispute until the charge posted, that I had to make sure my order was cancelled. Next day, I call the Digital Hunter to make sure the order has been cancelled. We got into an argument because they wouldn't want to cancel the order until I mentioned that I had called the credit card to put a dispute on the payment. The person said that the product was on it's way and I had no way to cancel. I said it's not possible,I placed the order yesterday and the confirmation e-mail said that I'd receive the product 20 days later. Of course this was a lie. When I said that I was supposed to receive an e-mail to confirm that the product had been shipped and I had not received such e-mail, that meant the product had not been shipped. He (Josh) couldn't argue that. He said, OK, I'll cancel the order and it will cost you 400 USD to cancel. I said, no worries, I already have a dispute with the credit card. He said, if you do so I will send you to the "correctionals" to which I responded "you are threatening me and this only gives me more arguments to dispute your order" He got extremely aggressive and never sent any cancellation e-mail. I am working with my credit card company to stop the payment to these scammers

Thanks to all for sharing your feedback here. I see sites like this often quoting the lowest price in the list of sites that next tag returns.

I was suspicious as the price for a new sony camcorder was almost equal to a used one being sold on other site.

Saved my self the trouble. Thanks everyone for their reviews and comments

Unfortunately, I found your site too late as well. If anyone out there actually has a mailing address for this outfit, please post it here. They have very skillfully avoided that and the Florida and New York Consumer Protection agencies need a mailing address to proceed with investigations. If we can get one, then everyone who has been scammed by these folks should register a complaint.

I was actively looking for a Cannon 7D complete with lenses and have reviewed many of the reviewers comments on this company which seemed very positive overall. Upon continued investigation I found your site Just in Time. I will not be dealing with this company and have resigned to paying a higher price with a reputable firm. Thank you for your insights.

I was about to spend ~$1700 in that shop. It looked a bit suspicious to me - the same item costs ~$2700 in other shops (which exceeds my budget), so I decided to Google a bit more for reviews. So, thanks for a warning and saving my money.

After reading all these posts I'm wondering why there's no law enforcement involvement. Have any of you who've been taken by these crooks filed a report?

Anonymous said...

Law enforcement help needed? How would you report them when there is no address listed for the company either in Florida or New York. This seems like a dubious business run by seasoned crooks. Before the law takes its course, avoid them like plague. Save $$money and hassle by buying from reputable business.

Anonymous said...

I didn't find this website until it was too late. However, I called my bank and explained all the crap they were trying to do, so my bank cancelled my cards and is going to deal with the company. Thankfully I have a great bank, I am printing this blog off for my bank so they can have it for their investigation records, so if anyone has any information that they would be willing for my bank to use please email it to me at tabbyjo80@gmail.com the more info my bank has the better chance they can stick it to this company just as they have tried to do with several of us.

Anonymous said...

I will be more concerned if you have cancelled your order because at that point they already have your home address and credit card number. You can always call your bank and have your card canceled but unless you plan to move, these crooks are aggressive(threatening and hence violent) and may cause material and physical harm to you or your family. Notify your family, law enforcers and email these crooks that in case of any untoward incident, they shall be held responsible.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the advice, but honestly they would be extremely stupid to try anything. I am in the military, so yep, have lots of training, not to mention a state trooper lives on one side of me and on the other one is the sheriff and they are always watching over the neighborhood, so hopefully they wouldn't be that dumb. I did try to cancel my order, but they used the same lines that they use with everyone else to say that it had already been shipped. I guess their shipping dept stays open later on than the rest of the company, due to the fact that I ordered my camera 5 minutes before they closed the previous night and the next morning called right when they opened. They are full of crap and complete crooks, I am posting them on better business buru.

Anonymous said...

Glad to hear that you can defend yourself and your family. I bet any army guy can, but still would be nice to send these scumbags and hardcore crooks an email as an advice. It is sickening to know that there are parasites like thedigitalhunter.com and then there are folks like the Navy Seals who sacrifice their lives for their country and us, like the 30 odd brave departed souls who passed away yesterday. Any donations to these honorable men's families can be made at www.nswfoundation.org and would be much appreciated. May God bless them and their families.

I wish I listen to my gut feeling but still I was stupid and put my order and the nightmare starts from the day I purchased with them. I felt like I'm being harrashed. They want me to rate them 5 stars even if its agaisnt my will. But that's the least I can do for me to be able to get a my full refund $1,726. I am not done with them yet since I still haven't receive the full refund amount. I hope and pray they will. The unnamed guy says 3-5 business days. Update my comments.

Sure wish I'd found this blog before ordering from Digital Hunter. Tried to buy just the Canon SX230HS, but they worked me hard to buy extras that were ridiculously priced and off-brand. When I called to cancel the extras, they said I could switch some out and that they'd give me a $50 credit on my order, but then when they finally shipped finally the camera, it came without the extra battery and charger I paid for. DO NOT BUY FROM HIS COMPANY..... YOU WON"T GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.

I have an email into these people on a Canon 60D, let's see what they say. they have seemed to cleaned up their act in the past 2 months, but that's never a sure sign.

to the people that don't think law enforcement can help - go to your state's attorney general's office and file a complaint with the Internet business bureau - if you can't locate the correct form online, call them and ask. Law enforcement DOES have the means to track internet businesses even if there is no address posted. All Internet activity is trackable, you just have to have the right tools.

I have ordered ( #58100D) Canon 60D (532.53) from thedigitalhunter, paid same time on Thursday night. Steeve the seller called me Friday noon asking the back digits of my credit card to confirm my order. This was a trick to change my order offering me insurance plan I was accepting but 1 hour later I called back to send the parcel to USA address. He then told me the 600D was the new replacing model of the 60D camera and had a 3 year warranty. I checked on the net and this was not the fact at all... it is replacing another model. Aperture speed of 600D is half the speed of 60D (4000vs8000). I want the 60D and respect my order 58100D, I must not be. The same Friday afternoon Steeve the seller told me it is too late because "item is already sent ...just return it". Note that advertising says he needs 2 business day to ship and we were a Friday at noon. He made everything fast in a manner to charge me 899.$ for the 600D. I have dialed their telephone number and they just kept me waiting on the line hanging off after 15 minutes, trying to escape from you. This occured 7 times 10-15 minutes of long distance calls (shown on my phone) and decide finally to send E'mail, after what he has called me back and tells me then the merchandise is already gone and this new model included a 3 year insurance plan and costs 899.$. (Everything to screw me up) and advise me he has taken the difference on my credit card because he said he did not need a new order and could change the amount himself. Then the long distance call failed and again had no choice but to write E'mails

I bought the 60D digital camera but I was supplied the 600D. a 366.$ over my order taken without my consent on credit card. If they charge me a penalty this would be a robbery and I will not let this go without keeping writing the story everywhere. They grab prospects with an item and swiched you to another one and make money with a penalty charged in returning the item the same day without even opening the parcel. That cannot be consider as an honest Nextag member. Note also that this member shows in his ad that because all his items are new he gives a 1 year warranty. That is true only with american merchandise.

If this member does not give me satisfaction and do not recognise the way things happened NO because this would show that you do not care the way your members act and this makes me feel very unsafe.

A wide variety of services and merchandises but nothing for the moment. I have to wait and see if you will get in touch with this member to protect me and preserve the seriousness of your commitment.

You should not ask to write the experience one has with a member prior having received, checked, and had a good and honest exchange with a seller

A Thedigitalhunter.com's victim myself on July 19, 2011, I wish I google or research about them before making the purchase !
I read through each and everyone's comments, and they are ALL TRUE about this scammer and website !

Once you made the payment online or giving them your credit card number, you're waisting your time to cancel online or by calling 954-744.1565. They will not hesitate to either tell a lie/bogus, or let you burn your phone's minutes. If you try to confront them, they will hang up on you, expect that !

DO NOT BUY FROM THIS WEBSITE, thedigitalhunter.com. !!!

The shipping address on the package is:
TCS
6605 20th avenue
Brooklyn, NY 11204

To cut the long story short: I purchased a package deal for Nikon D5100 with them. They offered me a "much better" lens from Sigma. I asked them what is the serial number. They would not tell me. tthey listed a Sigma lens on their website for $899. When I received it, I found out it was only worth of $143 on bestpricephote.com. I figured something was fishy after I placed the order. So I called back about 10 minutes later to cancel the deal. They said the order was already with an early truck. I do not think the product is faked. I probably paid about $200-300 more for the camera. I certainly hope some law enforcement would get them soon.

Thanks to google map this address is a small shop in blue. But I bet it is a deceptive or an incorrect address. And come to think of it why do they have a Florida phone number if their address or big warehouse is in NY and this in fact this is a big shipping warehouse. Smells doo-doo. They are not only looting innocent people but are looting authorities too.

And lately the crooks have posted great reviews on their website and on others to counter defrauded customers' complaints.

There is an alert for this business on BBB Business Review's website. It has F ratings.

I had the same exact dialogue with them as the Anonymous poster on July 7, 2011 did. Ordered a canon lens; he called supposedly to verify my shipping address; in the course of the call he asked "by the way, what camera do you have?" as if trying to make casual conversation; when I told him a Canon T1i, he tells me that I've ordered the wrong lens; that the lens I've ordered is 35mm formatted with a plastic mount, not digital with a metal mount, and that the lens I need is $25 more. I asked him to cancel the order and, to his very little credit, he did cancel promptly and without any hassle. Afterwards, I went back to the site and, of course, they do not have separate 35mm and digital versions of the same lens at two different prices. Typical bait-and-switch following a script that they must use over and over again.

I have just been scammed by the digital hunter. DO NOT PURCHASE FROM THEM. After a 30 day wait I received no product and then they offered a 100% money back promise within 72 hours. That was 10 days ago.
JOSH - is customer service rep. He is rude and gets angry very quickly and always make it sound like their failing are my fault.
ADAM - in Camcorders promises that he has 30 years working with Sony. He lies. He offers a product for $4000 that is advertised online everywhere else for $1500 and then offers it to me at a discount of $2000 - bottom line: THEY LIE, THEY CHEAT, THEY STEAL

I wish I had found this site before I bought the SIGMA FLASH from them. Of course, like others I originally wanted to purchase a different Nikon flash for less money. Rick said that this lens was an import and that it had a plastic mounting that would get hot and malfunction. He said that the Sigma had a metal mounting and twice the speed among other things. He also said that this was a professional version so I purchased it for 399.00. When I hung up I looked on Amazon and the same flash was 255.00. I called back to cancel and Rick said oh no thats not the same the one you are getting has a metal mount and it is new and hasn't come to the other U.S stores. So I bought it. It is the same as the ones for 155.00 less! Needles to say I called back and talked to Josh. He said I can return it less the restocking fee which I was not told about. I will lose about 40.00. I should have followed my gut feeling, if it is too good to be true it usually is a scam or what others call a bait and switch!!

It is beyond the point of 'don't buy from them' but taking action now both legal and social. These guys are immoral looters and loot at least a few people per day, going by the average posts. For every evil there is cure and for these convicts there is a place where they belong. And the psuedo-names(Rick, Josh, Ben, Adam) used by them are all anglicized, simply to dupe the buyers.

yeah, wow - thanks everyone... the deal i was looking at definitely sounded way too good to be true, a D5100 body for $469 when it's around $700 everywhere else.. i figured "ok it's an import" because it is clearly described on their site, and was still considering the purchase.. additionally these guys are really convincing on nextag, compared to other companies who are clearly scammers these guys seemed more legit.. definitely saved me trouble & i have to say that it's a good idea to generally stay away from nextag, seems like more than 50% of the dealers are scammers cut from the same cloth

Those of you who have lost money with Digital Hunter should get even instead of getting mad. Sit down and start writing letters to the State's Attorney General in Tallahassee. Send them a copy of these complaints or just email them a link to this blog. They have the ability to shut down a fraudulent website. Hopefully you are leaving your comments about Digital Hunter on every site review you can find.

Happy hunting!

The thedigitalhunter.com site is a scam. I bought a AF-S Zoom-Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II Lens
Qty: 1
$1,649.00
Subtotal: $1,649.00

Seems to good to be true. As it retails for 2.6K. Guess what, when I logged into my account, they stated that I purchased a Sigma 70-200 mm lens?!!!! I am trying to cancel the order. Do not buy anything from them. They have the same item placed in two locations with a price that is 1K difference.

I am so glad that I did a quick check before forking out about 500 into a new camera- the thing that got me though is after calling and asking them what the deal was- and they were quick and short with me and almost in a hurry to hang up.

I went back to the camera and would try to buy it- but it wouldn't bring it to my cart it would just say "there is nothing in your cart" so perhaps God is lookin out for me because as soon as I saw that I wanted to do my research.

They are not based in FL but in NY; the FL number is a trick to fool buyers and authorities. The place where they operate from in NY, they are untouchable, very well connected and above law. They have total impunity to screw everyone financially and physically as per their manager.

Is any one from Digital Hunter read all the comments about them? Is any one from any Investigation bureau reading about this bad business? Is any credit card press charges about all the transactions with a dispute vs Digital Hunter? Is any BBB take any action about this kind of business? Thank you any way for all the posts. Was ready to buy a Canon 60D (body only) for $449 plus an extra 5% discount.

There are lots of these places that have this bait and switch rep. I have heard the line about getting a plastic version and actually contacted the manufacturer (Canon) and asked if there was any such thing (No) In one case I cancelled an order from one and in another received my order with no problem and no upsell or lies at all despite the rep.

Has anyone ever tried just going along with the nutty spin and insisting on ordering exactly what you wanted and just refusing all offers of upgrade or accepting comments like: "This is the plastic version." "That's great, just what I want."? They probably would just never send you anything, including a reply or returned call, but it would be interesting to see...

ordered from them thursday 8/ 25, got upsold to what he called a usa model camera, w/ a cheaper sigma lense (no issue w/ sigma lenses, they are great), the price came to 1699. 30 minutes later, my bank account was charged $1802. I called back, they explained that it was a ups mandatory insurance charge they have to put on there, they could not refund the money, but did upgrade my 4gb card to an 8gb. I know the price diff between a 4 and an 8gb card (not $100), but at least they did something to try to make it right. still thinking they are a good company. Ben was the salesman, didn't get the name of customer service rep I spoke to. Verified again w/ customer service rep that I was scheduled for rush shipping. 'yes, it's in the notes".
looking at my account w/ them on saturday, all excited because I'm getting this camera package for my wife, noticing the shipping says 12-15 days. can't call them coz they aren't open on Saturday. weird hours.
called when they opened Sunday, spoke to Roger (getting their names this time), he verified rush shipping, should be here sometime this coming week. I don't call that rush. wanted a second opinion, called back at 4:04, same guy, he recognized me from calling earlier, verified 'sometime this week'. asked for his name, "louie".

8/31 still no email w/ tracking number. called 12:31 louie/roger again. verifed account number, yeah, you'll have that tomorrow (thursday). great! can I get a tracking number? he verified my email and said'you'll have that in 5 minutes".

12:57 thought this is getting a little sketchy, I've called several times, only spoken to 2 dudes who have given me 4 names. called back, got the other guy, heard louie/roger in the backround, asked to speak to a supervisor. he got my information, told me I should have it "friday, or, no, thursday or friday". I want to speak to a manager. "ok, he's going to tell you the same thing, hold on." (very rude sounding) on hold for 7 minutes, then they hung up.

I'm through with these clowns. I called my bank's fraud/claims dept. they are crediting my acct for the $1802, sending me paperwork so they can get their money back.

sincerely,
Ben, Roger, Louie

Luckily they did not give you a threat or maybe not as yet, to break your legs and skull, for daring to question them. There maybe 2 guys with 4 names which are their anglicized pseudo names. I really question their bank to withstand such crooks unless the bank is hand in glove with them. There is a good chance that this bank is not a US bank but rather a bank from a place where these crooks hail from.

When you get a delivery -- don't accept it, just return it because there is good chance that the product you buy from them is not genuine, stolen("fell off the truck") or refurbished.

Tell your family, friends about the incident and inform these thugs that if something happens to you, your family, your property they will be suspects.

When these thugs are not looting, they are busy posting great remarks on their and other websites.

TOTAL FRAUD..... This company is a total fraud... They will charge your CC and then will call you to upgrade to different packages. Once you receive the package you will find most of them as used items and also non-branded ones.
BEWARE OF DIGITAL HUNTER

As these other post indicate, DO NOT do business with this company. I recently ordered a camera from them and an extra battery and some guy named Steve tried to sell me a bunch of over-priced stuff the next day after claiming he wanted to verify my CC information. When the camera arrive it did not include the extra battery. When I called them back they said they were selling me the camera without the battery and charger and the $89 I paid for the second battery was for the charger and one camera battery. Even though the camera's manual indicates the camera includes a battery and charger. I think if this group was selling cars they would claim they sold you a car without the motor so they could charge you extra for the motor.

They also indicated that I would receive 5% off my order if I filled out a Nextag review at the time of the order, which I did not. So I am sure the good Nextag rating they have is because of people reviewing them before they have any real experience with these scam artists.

Yup they are scammers for sure!!!!
I bought a canon xha1s and was talked into buying a sony hvr-hd1000n. When I tried cancelling the order then next day, they said I could not do that because the return team was not in until monday. I called monday and they told me it was already shipped. When I tried tracking the package it didint ship until a week later...so they lied about it having already been shipped. When I tied to return the package after having received and having been told I could get my money back, they said it was a final sale on a discounted item and could only get store credit. Then I found out they sent me the 1000u, a model below the one I had purchased. Bottom line...don't buy from them...ever.

I ORDERED A CANON 60D CAMERA BODY FOR $532 ON JULY 29 - WITHIN A HALF HOUR THEY CALLED AND TOLD ME THAT IT DID NOT INCLUDE A BATTERY OR CHARGER. (CANON INCLUDES THE BATTERY AND CHARGER WITH BODY ONLY). I TOLD THEM TO SHIP IT ANYHOW ( W/O BATTERY +) - THEY SAID IT WOULD ARRIVE IN 2-3 WEEKS. TWO WEEKS LATER I EMAILED FOR STATUS - THEY EMAILED BACK THAT IT WAS STILL ABOUT TWO WEEKS AWAY.
TWO WEEKS LATER I EMAILED FOR STATUS AND REQUESTED UPS/USPS SHIPPING NUMBERS - NO RESPONSE. TWO WEEKS LATER I EMAILED FOR STATUS AND SHIPPING INFO AGAIN - NO RESPONSE. THEY NEVER SHIPPED ANYTHING TO ME. TODAY I EMAILED ORDER CANCELLATION.
BETWEEN MY ORDER AND THE END OF AUGUST THEY WERE ADVERTISING THE SAME CAMERA FOR LESS THAN $532.

THE ONLY GOOD THING IS THAT THEY DID NOT TRY TO CHARGE MY CREDIT CARD.

IT IS APPARENT THAT BY ASKING FOR FEEDBACK/ENDORSEMENTS AS THE ORDER IS PLACED THEY GET POSITIVE RATINGS BY BEING POLITE - BUT THEIR PUBLISHED FEEDBACK NEVER REFLECTS WHETHER OR HOW THEY EVER DELIVERED THE ORDER.

THEIR 60 DAY CUSTOMER SATISFACTION GUARANTEE MEANS WHAT? - CLICK ON IT - THERE IS NO EXPLAINATION - AND AFTER 50 DAYS NO MERCHANDISE. SO I GUESS THEIR GUARANTEE MEANS NOTHING.

I wish I had seen this site before I ordered.Bait and switch is their game for sure I was ordering a Nikon 60mm 2.8 micro lens ,the sales person (con artist) persuaded me to go for a Sigma 50mm macro supposedly a new release bla bla. I plced my order then checked on line and could not find the one he was selling me. I phoned immediately to cancel and fell victim to con man #2, who told me how wonderful this lens was etc. So I didn't cancel the order(more fool me ).I contacted Sigma USA, no new lenses and Digital Hunter are not authorised to sell Sigma products !!Now battling for a refund through Visa

Called them to order a camcorder for $1400. Gave all information for shipping & for charging on credit card. At the last second was told that unit was coming from Japan! If I wanted U.S. model, it would cost $2295!

Then tried to get me to order a newer version for another $800.

I got confused, cancelled order & told them I would have to get more information before comitting myself on purchase. ALL TO GOOD TO BE TRUE.
Found this blog to set me straight just in time - THANKS!

Copy of my post at Resellers Ratings: It is a little long but tell my experience.

"Update - White Box Items - No Warranty Card - $600.00 more than you could by it for at Sams.

Like many on this site I ordered, got the phone call, are you sure you want a Japanese model D7000? The ad did not mention this and he could get me a US version D5100 with a Sigma lens for only a couple of hundred dollars more. I do not know alot about cameras but know that I can by this camera at Sam's with two Nikkor lens for 300.00 less than he is talking about. So we go back to the D7000 with a Nikkor 18 to 200 zoom. Well he can make me deal and get me a US version D7000 but the lens has a plastic mount and he has just received the new version of the 18 to 105 lens with metal mount. It is listed a different lens on the web site with a much higher price compared to the standard 18/105 lens.

Against my better judgement I say go ahead with the order although I am now spending $300.00 more than I had originally intended. I told the customer service person that I was concerned about the way this order was going and that I would be checking the lens very carefully when it arrived, he said great because I would not be disappointed.

Not totally convinced by this I sent an email to Nikon asking if they had come out with a new version of their 18/105 lens and received a reply today saying they had not.

At this point I do not know what they shipped me but if it is the standard lens I have been overcharge about $500.00. I do not know if I will even accept this order at this point (it is suppose to be delivered tomorrow). I will call them tomorrow morning and confront them with this. Based on others experiences I do not expect it go well, but I paid with Discover and they are very good at handling these type of disputes.

This review could/will change as the delivery is not completed yet.

I received my order today. The $899.00 new Nikon 18-105mm =255mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR AF-S DX Nikkor Autofocus Lens steel was in a white unsealed box and it was just the standard lens that can be had for a couple of hundred dollars. On top of that d7000 camera was in a white box. I do not know if they are refurb, stolen, or import. There is no warranty card. The super extended battery he included is a standard EN-EL 15 battery. I have already contacted Discover Card about the charge. Digital Hunter said to call back Monday when the customer service would be back in. Story will continue. "

Got off the phone with Digital Hunter this morning. No real customer service, tried to tell me that I did not know that I had actually received the correct merchandise because I didn't have 20 years experience in the business. He said he was recording conversation (joke). I cut him off after a little while and told him I was filing a grand theft/fraud complaint with my local sheriffs internet crimes division because the amount of money involved was well over the felony level. He then said I was threatening him, to which I said I was just telling him what I was going to do.

He then started talking about letting me return my order and eventually emailed me a RMA. The RMA does not have any dollar amounts on it, which will end up work in my favor with my credit card company after I give them my criminal report case number from my sheriffs office.

Next step in this drama is actually getting my credit back.

People often use the term "Bait and switch" improperly. This company is text book definition. They have no intention on delivering the product you want. They don't even have it. The routine is for you to order your product at several hundred dollars less than you can find anywhere else. This is followed by a phone call confirming your order and engaging you in conversation on how you are going to use your purchase. If they can convince you into a different product that they have on hand and that product is profitable, they charge your account and ship. If you stick with the original product, they will cancel your order and send you an email saying there is a shipping delay from overseas. After that, if you call back and confirm you stil want your product, they will give all kinds of reasons on how long it will tak to get your order shipped. The slightest resistance from the buyer is met with the salesman saying, "it sounds like you just called for an argument, I will leave the order as canceled, I'm going to hang up now". BTW If you talk to Adam, Ralph or Bob, they are all the same guy. None will be available if you call and ask for them. All seem to be the same guy thats on their answering service / phone directory.

Thanks a million! I was going to buy a 5D for 1399 (making it already suspicious) but thanks to everyone’s comments decided against it. I’m glad people take the time to write their experience and protect each other. If it was just a couple of people who had bad experiences I probably would have taken a chance, but since its overwhelming how many people have had negative experience I will definitely stay away.

A side note: using the BBB isn’t the greatest indicator if a business is reputable or not. As a business owner, I know firsthand that you pay to their services and the more you pay the better your score will magically be (surprise surprise). So I wouldn’t solely base your decision on what the BBB is saying, they are starting to lose their creditability. Its blogs and pages like this that give the true indicator of how your buying experience will be.

I responded to their add on a Nikon camera w/ a 18-80 zoom lens which seemed to be a bargin.
Being an unsophisticated buyer and an old bistard as well I made the enormus mistake of asking what else I needed to buy for my new Nikon system.

I was told the special Titanium polizered filter set was $200 the Nikon battery charger and and battery was $250 They told me it would take 24hrs to charge the battery with the standard Nikon charger. The security 4MG data card was $150.

Not knowing any better (I'm 70 years old) and not versed in digital cameras so I agreed to this special PACKAGE.

A week larter I e-mailed them asking for a breakdown on the charges as I felt I paid way too much. I was told in an e-mail that the salesman gave Me a good package deal and I saved a lot of money. Yeah right. They shipped my camera but back ordered the 80-200mm lens. When I found out I had been had, I canceled the order and bought it from 42nd camera. No problems there. This is nothing but a rip off and you better beware before doing business with them.

I would like to bay Canon lens. . When I called, they we going to do me a favor by giving me a 'better' sigma lens for the same price. He was very pushy and talked me into items that I didn’t want. I asked him to send me via e-mail a description of the lens so I can read the characteristics of it to decide.
He never sent me the e-mail that he promised me, I called him back but they put me on hold all the time, and after 50 minutes somebody pick up the phone and told me that the office was closed.
Next day I tried to spoke with the manager but they put me on hold again, spoke with different employees.
Called Chase Visa my card to file a dispute as it was already charged and delivered.
STAY AWAY from this company!!!!!!!

I'm am Camera Tech/Sales Agent at AbelCine and one of my clients just sent me an email about a 5D Mark II Body for $1,500 which is WAY less than what Canon even sells those cameras to US for and we're one of the most respected mid-high end dealers in North America. So that raised my eyebrows. I did a bit of research and found this site. So thank you all who share your experiences. I'm just glad my client asked my opinion before falling into a clever, but pathetic scam.
I have just warned the rest of AbelCine and will be placing calls into Canon, Sony etc. tomorrow to do what we can and have this stop.

Oh lord! I wish I'd of came here before dealing with these guys. I paid WAY too much for a camera and after finding several sites with the price lower, I gave them the opportunity to either match or beat it, or I wanted a refund via there "60 day money back guarantee". Yeah...RIGHT. They have NEVER returned and email or phone call. I call during "business hours" listed on their site & a recording comes on saying they're closed. A guy named "Ben" was our salesperson and lied about a bunch of stuff. When I called to complain about the pricing and not receiving some items, another "Ben" (supposedly a different one) with the exact same voice claims he'll take care of it, but never calls back. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE GUYS.

Complete scam – do not bother!

I’ve just wasted my time arguing with a bunch of morons who tried to pull the bait-and-switch on me.
Pay the extra money and buy something legit. It also makes us feel good about not feeding these crooks.

FYI. I placed an order for a brand new Nikon DSLR item listed with all included accessories. I got the call back telling me this was an “import model” (aka grey market - nowhere listed on their website). All the prices they gave me had nothing to do with the order I placed (higher of course).

Ended up canceling the order.

"BUYER BEWARE - BUYER BEWARE - BUYER BEWARE - BUYER BEWARE

NEVER WILL I DO BUSINESS WITH THIS MERCHANT AGAIN!!!

05JUL11 - The sales rep talked me into two sigma lenses vs the canon lenses I was going to purchase.

25JUL11 - I later returned them and ordered the two lenses I was going to purchase.

Now the problem begins.

- Problem 1: They fail to alert you that the item you are ordering is not in stock when the order is first placed.

- Problem 2: They fail to provide an invoice showing the returned product credit and breakdown for new items. Still no invoice after repeated phone requests.

- Problem 3: They do ship one of the two lenses but the 2nd lense is supposedly "back-ordered". I had to place over 15 calls to still learn that the remaining camera lense has still not shipped in TWO MONTHS (JUL25-OCT5).

- Problem 4: They will provide you with an estimated shipping date and item never ships. Nor do they contact you to update you.

- Problem 5: After I finally get fed up and cancel the 2nd lense, THEY NEVER REFUND the amount to my credit card. They will tell you it will be processed in 24/48hrs and NEVER gets processed. (Calls placed 10/5, 11/2, 11/4, 11/7)

- Problem 6: They will even provide you with a credit confirmation and transaction ID in an email but NEVER PROCESS THE CREDIT. Even phone calls to the customer service manager does not get the credit processed!! WHAT A SCAM!

I will NEVER do business with this company again and will tell everyone I know to save yourself the hassle!!!!! Therefore, BUYER BEWARE!!! I wish I would have read some of the other reviews before I placed my order with this merchant. They should have their visa privileges revoked.

The cheap price is NOT WORTH THE CUSTOMER SERVICE HEADACHE."

Everyone beware, their new incarnation is Digital Depot Online!!! They have great reviews on nextag and no scam reports online yet but when I called to cancel my order they gave me the digital hunter number to call back. They are thieves I tell you! I ordered a canon camera then they called me to let me know it was not the "US" version and was grey market. I said I wanted the real one and they said canon makes 2 versions one with titanium and one with plastic body. I knew then and there that whatever I bought from them would be fake. I called canon and they reaffirmed my suspicions ie. They do not make any plastic body EOS cameras. I cancelled my order and they said they will charge me 15% restocking fee. They didn't say they were still sending the product and I would have to return it. I cancelled after they had 3 hours to process my order, no way it had already been shipped. But my cancellation email said they are still sending it to me. I am disputing this with my cc company. STAY AWAY. If I had known digital depot online was digital hunter I never would have bought from them!!!

If everyone of us that has been scammed by the digitalhunter.com files a complaint with the FTC, then we will actually see some justice done to this company, and many of us will be able to get our money back too! just go here: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, or call 1-877-FTC-HELP (1-877-382-4357). The more of us that use our voices will show that there is a clear pattern of shady business practices by this company.

I've learned that the low prices on the Canon EOS 5D Mk II seems to be for a knock off with a polycarbonate body -- and who knows what other differences -- that the sellers claim is the Japanese version. I contacted Canon who told me Canon does not make a 5D II with a poly body.

Digital Depot Online is the worst company I've ever dealt with! I just got scammed by them big time. On Cyber Monday I tried to order $6k worth of camera equipment. They tried the bait and switch routine first by telling me what I wanted isn't available, after charging my credit card. Then Steven there claimed I would have to pay 10% to cancel even though it was only 12 hours later and he challenged me to cancel the order and said he'd couldn't be happier if I cancelled: "Go ahead I want you to cancel" he said. So then I got him to agree to sell me what I originally wanted but it's been 10 days now and they claim my order has been shipped but refuse to give me a tracking number? I waited on hold for 45 minutes to speak to Anthony (a so called supervisor) who had the same terrible attitude as the others I dealt with there (Samone, Ben, Kim & Robert). He said "tough luck, just wait 15 business days like everyone else has to and it should show up at your door". I suspect they will claim I'm the problem but I am one of the most professional and patient people you will every meet. I don't know what I did to deserve such abuse, I still want to order $3k more worth of lenses and accessories but I wouldn't feel comfortable ordering a lens cap from this company. I really don't understand how a company can stay in business with this type of customer service. I would understand if it was one employee but I feel I got a good sample from many of them so far.

Do not business with them.

Let me explain what happened this week with Digital Depot. I would like to explain as objective as possible.

DAY 1
Found Digital Depot attracted by the cheapest price of about 1,261 for 5D in Nextag
Decided to purchase it online
Received an email telling me to call CS to confirm the order and call them
CS rep told the product I was trying to buy is the import model and its manual is set up in German and I can’t change the setting.
Also told me no charger, no battery nor any warranty attached, moreover the camera has plastic body.
I told them to cancel the order.
CS told me I have to pay 10 % restocking fee which is $130
CS suggested me to buy USA version instead so I don’t have to pay the fee. The USA version was $2,259.
CS asked me to buy a battery charger since the battery charger in the set is really cheap and it takes 24 hrs to fully charge the battery.
I purchased the camera with the battery and received a confirmation email. I found $2,500 including 6 % of insurance fee withdrew immediately.
DAY 2
I started googling the company and reached nextag reviews. There were 3 bad reviews out of 177 reviews. Checked the 3 reviews and found that they suffered for the same kind issues.
Checked Digital Hunter, which listed the second cheapest price for 5D in Nextag
Found the webpage looks just like Digital Depot then started looking through all the negative reviews.
Found many people suffered the same issues. Finished reading all the reviews about Digital Hunter in Nextag, googled other reviews in resellerrating. Again found the same problems in the reviews.
During the research, I found someone posted that Digital Hunter is the succeeding of Thunder Camera, which was suspended business in 2009.
Googled Thunder Camera and found tons of bad reviews at resellerrating as well.
I decided to cancel the order.
DAY 3
I called Digital Depot and talked with CS rep, Robert and asked the status of the order. He said it is in shipping. I asked if the item was already shipped out or not. He told that it’s already shipped out and the order is in UPS now. I asked him to give me a tracking number but he refused to give me the tracking number because they do not have tracking numbers. Detail follows.
Robert said “ I do not understand why you are asking the tracking number of the order you just made 2 days ago even though you chose free shipping and it is supposed to take 10 days to deliver. UPS can keep the order and ship it any time. UPS can ship it today, tomorrow or next week but UPS has the item. You can not cancel the order because the order was already processed. You chose free shipping and tracking number will be available and sent to your email 3 days before the delivery. You will get it by next Friday.”
I replied, “I just want to make sure if I can get the order or not. I am just asking the tracking number which you should have if you shipped the order from your warehouse. What if some damages occur during the delivery how can you track the order to see if the item is ok without tracking number?”
Robert, “We have our system to track the order and you chose free shipping so please wait 10 days. You will get it by next Friday.”
I said, “ what if it is not delivered by next Friday?” Robert, “ I will give you a full refund.”
I asked, “Can you send me a written confirmation saying that you will give me a full refund if the order is not delivered by next Friday?”
Robert, “You will get it by Friday OK? I have to go.”
He hanged up. I am still waiting for his confirmation.

I am waiting for the delivery and what might happen next? Late shipment? Camera in the white box with no warranty? Then no refunds? Let me update.

It is up to your judgment but I strongly recommend not to do business with them.

It's true. I was about to order something from them, the Mark 5d II, and the guy tried to talk me into the 7d, which i called back later to say I'd rather have the 5d, -- anyway, gave credit card number and at the very last second he asks me if i want to purchase a battery, charger, etc with the camera. WHAT? This should all come with it. This means they STRIP canon's packages to get more money. I did not go through with the order, but because I gave them my #, i later found out they charged me for the 7d!!!!!! also the battery, warranty, etc.

I NOT PURCHASE THESE THINGS!!!! how dare they? They did this withhout my consent... and after an hour or two on the phone, of rude, rude, RUDE salesmen, they were willing to give me back the camera, but i'd have to pay for the warranty that i cannot even use.

Needless to say I am contacting my credit card company and BBB. They can research the recordings themselves.

Thank you so much for your blog Dave! I was looking for a Canon 60D and they have it for cheaper than a T3i.... which is unreal.

Your blog helped me confirm my suspicions! It sucks that others got scammed already.

I just want to say that I found it to be weird that they want your credit card info before they tell you how much the total will be with shipping. Luckily they didn't get my card number, and I shall remember this lessons every time I shop online.

These guys are crooks! My husband is in the Navy and came home for 8 days. I was assured my purchase would arrive before christmas. He is gone and my package (for which I saved all year) has still not arrive. Everytime I call, they hang on me. They are very rude and unprofessional and unwiling to assist once they think they have your money. There is one person who identifies himself as Ben and Josh who is the only person there (acting as if there is a full office).

Oh yes good ol' Ben and Josh, they are a both a piece of work huh? I'm so sorry to hear this story, I went through a complete nightmare with a $5,500 purchase and for what reason. I have since pruchased another $8k worth of equipment elsewhere with B&H Photo Video and Adorama Camera who have both been great. I will never do business with "The Digital Hunter" nor "Digital Depot Online" (they are both the same company). Real crooks!

Was directed to this site through Nextag so thought it was Legit. Was looking for a lens for my d90 and they had it much cheaper than anywhere else. Was about to submit my purchase when I noticed my cursor's arrow wouldnt turn into a finger-point when I scrolled it over all their "security badges".....NOT A GOOD SIGN. Went online to do some research and found your site as well as others with similar warnings. You guys confirmed my instincts.....this is definitely a possible SCAM. I even called the customer service number and got a bad automated recording that gets you nowhere no matter which option you choose. THANK YOU FOR SAVING ME FROM A POTENTIALLY TERRIBLE SITUATION. The bad thing was I had already entered my CC information and the site wouldnt let me de-activate or edit/delete my info (another bad sign). So I called my bank and cancelled that card...they will have a new one to me in a cpl of days. WHEW....close one!

my experience is the same as all the others you just read about... I tried to buy a Canon 60D at a price that was way too low to believe. Then, get this.. to order it, you have to REVIEW THE COMPANY!! That's right, before you get the order, you have to give them a review! Ok, I buy the camera, and then decide to look them up, and I see that they are a scam company... So just like I expected, I get an email telling me to call them to confirm. I call them, but their phone number doesn't work.. in other words, I don't hear the phone call go through. But somehow they know you're calling, because they call right back. Then they tell me that it's a 'grey market" item, and that it said so on the website. (IT DID NOT) I cancelled my purchase, and now I'm going to make sure via credit card company that it was indeed cancelled.
I hate to say it, but you'll know what's up when you hear the "service rep's" accent..

I ordered a Panasonic TM900 Camcorder on July 15, 2011. I was talked into buying items that I didn't want. I called an hour later, but was told that I had to talk to a manager to change my order. The manager nver called back. By the time I talked to a person the order had already been shipped. I have gone through a lot of trouble trying to return unwanted items and get a refund. I am still out $250 for items returned. They never gave me the credit on my account. DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS UNTRUSTWORTHY COMPANY! This is the worst experience I have ever had.

I left an excellent rating on the nextag review about Digitaldepotonline because it would not let me use the extra 5%off coupon without that. Big mistake. DONOT buy anything from this company; it is a scam.
